Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq was a prominent politician and lawyer in British India and Pakistan. He was born in 1873 in Bengal and died in 1962. He received excellent marks in his education, obtaining scholarships, and graduated with honors from Presidency College in Calcutta. Huq had a long career as a lawyer and later entered politics. He served as Chief Minister of East Bengal, federal home minister of Pakistan, and governor of East Pakistan. Huq supported the Bengali language movement and established several educational institutions in Bengal to promote Bengali culture and education.

Fazlul Huq born on October 26 1873 in his maternal uncle's house in the village of
Saturia under the Rajapur Thana in the district of Jhalakathi, under greater
Barisal.
And he died on Friday, April 27, 1962, at 10:20 a.m. at an age of 89 years and 6
months.
3. Education Life
AK Fazlul Huq, since his childhood, was an extra-ordinarily meritorious student.
He obtained scholarship in his mid-level examinations and passed the Entrance
(SSC) Examination with brilliant marks in the year 1889.
In 1891, in his FA Examination, Sher-e-Bangla also got scholarship.
In 1894, he passed the Honours Examination simultaneously in Mathematics,
Physics and Chemistry with credit from the Presidency College, Kolkata (Calcutta)
India.
AK Fazlul Huq passed the MA in Mathematics with the highest credits.
He also passed the Law degree with distinction only to become one of the most
celebrated and legendary lawyers of the Indian Sub-continent in no time.
4. Personal Life
He was married three times.
His first wife was Khurshid Begum with whom he had two daughters. The
marriage ended in divorce.
His second wife was Musammat Jannatunissa Begum who was from Howrah,
West Bengal. They had no children.
His third wife Khadija was from Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh. They had a son
together.
5. Civil Servant And lawyer
From 1908 to 1912, Huq was the Assistant Registrar of Co-operatives. He resigned
from public service and opted for public life and law. Being advised by
Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, he joined the bar council of the Calcutta High Court and
started legal practice. He practiced in the Calcutta High Court for 40 years.
6. Political career
Chief ministership: Huq became chief minister for two months of East Bengali in
1954.
Central ministership: In August 1955, A. K. Fazlul Huq become the federal Home
Minister.
Governorship: Huq was appointed Governor of East Pakistan in 1956. He served
in the position for two years until 1958.
7. Contribution
Huq was a major political figure in British India and later
in Pakistan (including East Pakistan, which is now Bangladesh).
He supported the Bengali Language Movement in 1952. Huq was also injured
during police action against demonstrators demanding that Bengali be made a
state language of Pakistan.
8. Sher-e-Bangla founded several educational and technical institutions for Bengali
Muslims, including Islamia College in Calcutta.
