The Matty Fund and The Autism Project Join Together for
Epilepsy and Autism Workshop
Crowne Plaza Hotel Warwick, RI (March 27, 2014)­​ The Matty Fund and The Autism
Project joined forces to host a workshop presented by neurologist Dr. John Gaitanis.
A full house of children and caregivers, as well as health professionals and educators
attended the informative session.
The Autism Project has developed a comprehensive system of care and resources that
meet the needs of children and adults with autism and their families including education,
health, and social and community needs. ​Similarly, The Matty Fund has offered support
and outreach to families affected by epilepsy throughout Rhode Island for over a decade.
This non­profit organization continues to offer free workshops ​to provide information,
advocacy, and education for families and caregivers touched by this illness.
Dr. John Gaitanis is an associate professor of neurology and pediatrics at The Warren
Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. His presentation explored the
commonality between autism and epilepsy. The workshop was intended for parents and
caregivers seeking a better understanding of the relationship between the two illnesses.
The Matty Fund and The Autism Project continue to assist those inflicted with the many
challenges surrounding these two illnesses. Their dedication and commitment has
cultivated a new hope of a better future for those affected by Epilepsy and Autism.
