In the early 1950s, plans were being finalized to move
California Baptist College (now University) to its
present location in Riverside. The dream of a church
near the new campus was born in the hearts and
minds of a few students and faculty members, leading
to the launch of Magnolia Church in 1955. Since its
humble beginnings, Magnolia Church has continued in
its mission to lead people to become authentic
followers of Jesus Christ both at home in the rapidly
growing Inland Empire region of Southern California
and to the ends of the earth.

On Easter Sunday 1949, Saint Luke’s was born
in a farmhouse with a homemade altar, a
locomotive bell, and children spilling out into
the yard. From these humble beginnings our
church has become one of the largest in our
denomination, with a proud legacy of
leadership, outreach, and deep friendships
within our city and beyond.
