• Larry Page and Sergey Brin were PhD students at Stanford
University in California
• In 1997, they started a project at backrub (search engine).
• It is called backrub because it uses web’s back link.
• In 1998, they develop a search engine named as
Google(misspelled from a mathematical term googol means
1 followed by 100 zeros).
