The document discusses Hilsha fish production in Bangladesh. It provides details on the life cycle and breeding of Hilsha fish as well as historical catch rates from 2002-2014. Hilsha is an important part of Bangladesh's economy and culture, with approximately 2 million people employed in its fishing and export. However, climate change and environmental degradation are negatively impacting Hilsha fish populations through effects on breeding habitats and migration routes. Conservation efforts are needed to protect this vital national resource.

5. Hilsha is the national fish of Bangladesh. The
population of our country are familiar with this
fish.
Hilsha is an anadromous migratory fish
available in the fresh water rivers, estuaries,
and the sea.
It is a small fish of silver color . It is about 6 to
30 centimeter large in size.

6. Five type of Hilsha can be found worldwide.
Among the 11 country where Hilsha is found,
Bangladesh is the only country where
production of this silver fish is on the rise.
A large number of people of our country
depend on catching or selling fish. It has
become related to our tradition.

9. Hilsha production
Five type of Hilsha can be found worldwide.
Yearly Hilsha caught are 5,000,00 ton.
Among them, 50%-60% are caught
by Bangladesh, 15%-20% are caught by India,
Pakistan and rest 5%- 10% are caught
by Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

14. Frozen Hilsha fish export from
Bangladesh
The frozen Hilsha fish export is increasing
significantly and has an important role to the
economy of Bangladesh in recent year.
Hilsha production is 30% of total fish in
Bangladesh. About 60% of Hilsha fish of the
world found in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh export Hilsha to India, Middle
East, Europe and America.

15. It is estimated that about 2 million
fishermen and traders are engaged in
Hilsha fishing in the country.

17. IMPORTANT OF HILSHA FISH
The Hilsha is highly fecund fish.
Every year in the world Hilsha caught are
500000 ton. Among them 50%-60% are
caught by Bangladesh,
15% - 20% are caught by India, Pakistan
and 5% - 10% are caught by Malaysia,
Thailand, China and Sri Lanka.

18. The production of Hilsha fish is about
30% of the total fish production of the
country
About 2% of the population is directly or
indirectly related in this fishery . It has a
great effect on our economy.
Every year we earn a lot of foreign
currency by exporting Hilsha.

20. BANGLADESH A WORLD MODEL
FOR HILSHA FISH
Among the 11 countries where Hilsha is
found, Bangladesh is the only country where
of this silver fish is on the rise.
Hilsha production has been increasing at
the rate of 8% to 10% every in Bangladesh .
World fish says , Bangladesh is the leading
country in Hilsha production with 65% of
all Hilsha.

21. Climate change impacts on
reproductive behavior of Hilsa fish
Climate change has direct and indirect
adverse effect on their reproduction,
migration and survival.
A statistic said that one reason for the
decline in fish breeding in the river
sediment is deposited.
20/03/2016 Rafiqul Islam 21
22. Therefore , reproductive cycle is a
harmonious process interlinked
with environmentally mediated
routine of various aquatic
ecosystems.
In such case any adverse
environmental condition might
affect the natural reproduction
process of marine fish population.
20/03/2016 Rafiqul Islam 22
23. Environment of Bay of Bengal
The sedimentation loads from rivers
entering into the BoB have increased
hundred times in the last century .
The large volume of discharge of
untreated industrial wastes, pesticide
residues and fertilizer leakages-all are
dangerous to the marine environment.
20/03/2016 Rafiqul Islam 23
24. Destruction of marine habitats has
also been causing great concern for
the future of marine fisheries.
Freshwater runoff can reach up to
195,000 m/s in the monsoon
period.
20/03/2016 Rafiqul Islam 24
25. Seasonal variation in precipitation
and in the intensity and amount of
discharge causes the flood flow in
Bangladesh.
Compared to past, the intensity of
water flow has tremendously been
reduced in Bangladesh due to Farakka
barrage.
20/03/2016 Rafiqul Islam 25
26. Thus the migration routes of
Hilsha in the river basin of
Bangladesh have been affected
seriously as the water-flow from
India into Bangladesh has been
reduced during the dry summer.

28. CONCLUTION
Hilsha is the favorite fish of our countries
people. It is a part of our tradition.
But the matter of regret is the reduction of fish.
A large number of people depend on buying
and selling fish for their livelihood
The country earns huge foreign currency by
exporting it. So it is our duty to same the fish.
Government should also pay emphasis on this
sector.
