CSUF Student-Run Agency Hosts Annual Open House
Featuring a Public Relations Speaker Panel
FULLERTON,Calif.,(April 14, 2015)- On Thursday, April 23, 2015, PRacticalADvantage Communications, California
State University,Fullerton’s only student-run agency, willbe hosting its second annual Agency Open House that
will feature a professional PR speaker panel. The event willtake place at the CSUF Irvine Campus on April 23 at
2:30 p.m. in room 209. The panel discussion will be broadcast to the Fullerton Campus in Langsdorf Hall room 322.
Students from both campuses will be given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation with
professionals.
The theme of the panel willbe ‘gaining the professional knowledge youneed before yougraduate’ and willfocuson
providing students withindustry advice that cannot be taught in the classroom. The event is open to the public and
its main purpose is to generate awareness for the PR concentration, as wellas the PRacticalADvantage
Communications Agency. In September 2013, PRacticalADvantage Communications was the only collegiate firm
honored as one of PR News Magazine's list of the nation's "Agency Elite."
“PRacticalADvantage Communications provides students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom setting.
It’s as close to “real world” as possible. It allows them to workin an agency-likeenvironment with real clients,
allowing them to gain experiences that set them apart in the workforceafterthey graduate,” said Douglas Swanson,
APR and Supervisor, PRacticalADvantage Communications.
The main event is the Agency Open House and willbe held before and after the panel at the Irvine campus. The
Agency Open House willshowcase workthat students have implemented forreal clients such as Mazda Motor
Sports, The Growler Station, and Fit Fix Studio. The Open House will also feature a Polaroid picture booth, as well
as complimentary foodand drinks forthose in attendance.
The interactive speaker panel will spotlight PR professionals: Erin Glover, Social Media Coordinator forDisneyland
Resort; Anthony Magani, AccountManager at Luxury Brand Group; Andrea Carpena, Client Services Coordinator at
Working Wardrobes and CSUF Alumna; and Bill Kolberg with over25 years of experience as a partner at Porter
Novelli. The interactive discussion willprovide students withtips and advice forstarting their career path in PR by
supplying them withprofessional insight and experiences in the industry.
PRacticalADvantage Communications was established in 2011 and is housed at the CSUF campus in Irvine.The
agency is a collaborativeeffortof students in capstone courses in the three concentrations of advertising, public
relations and entertainment and tourism. The agency has also conducted over65 successful campaigns for on-and
off-campusnonprofits and businesses. PRacticalADvantage Communications allowsstudents to develop and
implement advertising and public relations campaigns and/or events for local businesses, non-profit organizations,
and student organizations at CSUF.
