2013 NWSL Regular-Season Champions
INSIDE THE MATCHUP: The Flash ends its
four-game homestand as Seattle Reign FC
visit Sahlen’s Stadium for the second time in
less than two weeks. The first-place Reign is
still undefeated, and is coming off a 0-0 tie
at home to Sky Blue FC. Looking to improve
its playoff position, the Flash will also try to
start its second win streak of the season.
CAPTAIN CARLI: With her brace against the
Breakers on Friday, Carli Lloyd has taken over
the team lead in goals with six on the season,
andiscurrentlyfifthintheleagueingoalsscored.
Lloyd is now ahead of Sam Kerr, who has five
on the year. Last season Lloyd was the second-
leading scorer on the team with eight goals,
and was sixth in the league for goals scored.
UNDER PRESSURE: Against the Boston
Breakers on Friday, the Flash registered a
season-high 22 total shots thoughout the
game. The team’s previous high was 21
shots, which came in its record breaking 5-0
win aginst Portland Thorns FC. The Flash
also matched its season-high 10 corner kicks
for the second time this season, first setting
the total in a 2-1 win against FC Kansas City.
LOSADA IN THE LEAD: Vicky Losada’s
assist in Sunday’s game extended her
league-leading total to six on the season. The
Spaniard is now two ahead of the Seattle duo
of Beverly Goebel and Jess Fishlock, and
Washington’s Diana Matheson. Losada has
had an assist in three-straight games, and two
of those three have been off of corner kicks.
SET PIECE STRENGTHS: In four of the
Flash’s past five games, a goal has been
scored off of a set piece, and three of those four
assists have been off of corners. Brittany Taylor
has scored both of her goals this season off of
Vicky Losada set pieces, and tallied an assist
on Friday off a free kick to Carli Lloyd. Sam
Kerr has also scored off a corner this season.
Four of Losada’s league leading six assists
this year have come from set piece situations.
JUNE IN THE BOOKS: Through its six games in
themonthofJune,theFlashfinishedrightat.500
with a record of 3-3-0. Scoring in every game but
one, the Flash outscored its opponents in June
13-6, and are currently on a four-game scoring
streak. In June of last season, the Flash went
undefeated with a record of 3-0-3 and scored
14 goals while allowing five goals against.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: With the
conclusion of its current four-game homestand
this Wednesday, the Flash will face the
Houston Dash on the road and then return
home for another three games. After its game
against the Reign, the Flash will end the
season playing four of its last eight games
at home to end the season. The Flash have
a record of 4-2-1 at home this season.
THE PLAYOFF PUSH: Friday’s win against
the last-place Breakers vaulted the Flash into
a three-way tie for third place. However, the
Washington Spirit’s win on Saturday bumped
the Flash down into a three-way tie for fourth
place. Due to a positive goal differential the
Flash currently own the tie-breaker for the
final playoff spot. A win Wednsday could put
the Flash in sole possesion of third-place.
2014 VS SRFC: In two games against the
Reign this season, the Flash have lost points
from a winning position both times. After
handing the Reign just its second tie of the
season, the Flash lost at home to the Reign
2-1. With an all-time home record of 1-1-1
against the Reign, a win wednesday would
tie the regular season series at 1-1-1 as well.
WAMBACH OUT A MONTH: Upon returning
from camp with the US Women’s National Team,
Abby Wambach will be out for about three weeks
due to her LCL sprain. Wambach, who leads the
Flash in every offensive category against the
Reign, has been sidelined since May 31st. It has
been announced that the forward will complete
two weeks of rehab and another two weeks of
training before being considered for game play.
#REDALERT: The Western New York Flash
are calling upon fans to help “red out” Sahlen’s
Stadium during 2014. After wearing white kits
for home games last year, the Flash will be in all
red for Rochester matches this season. Fans are
encouraged to wear red apparel to games and
usethehashtag#RedAlertwhenonsocialmedia.
NEXT GAME: With the end of its four-game
homestand the Flash head on the road for one
game before returning to Sahlen’s Stadium. The
Flash will travel to BBVA Compass Stadium to
take on the Houston Dash for the final time this
season. Through two games against the Dash,
the Flash is still looking for its first ever win
against the expansion club, losing the previous
two games by a score of 2-1 both times.

GAME 14 RECAP: FLASH 2, BREAKERS 1
The Flash took on the Boston Breakers for the first time this season, with a chance to move into
playoff position. It was a physical game with 23 total fouls, and the Flash led the Breakers in every
offensive category.
After a scoreless first half, Carli Lloyd scored her fifth goal of the year to put the Flash up 1-0. Brittany
Taylor found Lloyd in the penalty box on a well-placed free kick, which Lloyd headed into the side
netting past keeper Alyssa Naeher.
The lead lasted just over 10 minutes for the Flash, when the Breakers equalized through rookie Nkem
Ezurike. The forward was able to finish a through-ball from Maddy Evans.
As the game was winding down, Lloyd struck again for the Flash, after a give-and-go with NWSL
assist leader Vicky Losada. Lloyd’s brace was her second of the season, and she now leads the team
in goals with six.
The win moved the Flash into a three-way tie for third place, but, due to a Washignton Spirit win
Saturday, the Flash curently sit in a three-way tie for fourth.
Goals:
WNY: 59’ - Lloyd (Taylor) BOS: 71’ - Ezurike (Evans)
83’ - Lloyd (Losada)

WESTERN NEW YORK FLASH GAME NOTES • FLASH (6-7-2) VS SEATTLE REIGN FC (11-0-3) • GAME #16 7:00 p.m. ET • Wednesday, July 2, 2014 • Sahlen’s Stadium • Rochester, NY Referee: Greg Dopka Assistant Referees: Danielle Chesky, Christoper Trottier Fourth Official: Raymond Tam 2013 NWSL Regular-Season Champions INSIDE THE MATCHUP: The Flash ends its four-game homestand as Seattle Reign FC visit Sahlen’s Stadium for the second time in less than two weeks. The first-place Reign is still undefeated, and is coming off a 0-0 tie at home to Sky Blue FC. Looking to improve its playoff position, the Flash will also try to start its second win streak of the season. CAPTAIN CARLI: With her brace against the Breakers on Friday, Carli Lloyd has taken over the team lead in goals with six on the season, andiscurrentlyfifthintheleagueingoalsscored. Lloyd is now ahead of Sam Kerr, who has five on the year. Last season Lloyd was the second- leading scorer on the team with eight goals, and was sixth in the league for goals scored. UNDER PRESSURE: Against the Boston Breakers on Friday, the Flash registered a season-high 22 total shots thoughout the game. The team’s previous high was 21 shots, which came in its record breaking 5-0 win aginst Portland Thorns FC. The Flash also matched its season-high 10 corner kicks for the second time this season, first setting the total in a 2-1 win against FC Kansas City. LOSADA IN THE LEAD: Vicky Losada’s assist in Sunday’s game extended her league-leading total to six on the season. The Spaniard is now two ahead of the Seattle duo of Beverly Goebel and Jess Fishlock, and Washington’s Diana Matheson. Losada has had an assist in three-straight games, and two of those three have been off of corner kicks. SET PIECE STRENGTHS: In four of the Flash’s past five games, a goal has been scored off of a set piece, and three of those four assists have been off of corners. Brittany Taylor has scored both of her goals this season off of Vicky Losada set pieces, and tallied an assist on Friday off a free kick to Carli Lloyd. Sam Kerr has also scored off a corner this season. Four of Losada’s league leading six assists this year have come from set piece situations. JUNE IN THE BOOKS: Through its six games in themonthofJune,theFlashfinishedrightat.500 with a record of 3-3-0. Scoring in every game but one, the Flash outscored its opponents in June 13-6, and are currently on a four-game scoring streak. In June of last season, the Flash went undefeated with a record of 3-0-3 and scored 14 goals while allowing five goals against. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: With the conclusion of its current four-game homestand this Wednesday, the Flash will face the Houston Dash on the road and then return home for another three games. After its game against the Reign, the Flash will end the season playing four of its last eight games at home to end the season. The Flash have a record of 4-2-1 at home this season. THE PLAYOFF PUSH: Friday’s win against the last-place Breakers vaulted the Flash into a three-way tie for third place. However, the Washington Spirit’s win on Saturday bumped the Flash down into a three-way tie for fourth place. Due to a positive goal differential the Flash currently own the tie-breaker for the final playoff spot. A win Wednsday could put the Flash in sole possesion of third-place. 2014 VS SRFC: In two games against the Reign this season, the Flash have lost points from a winning position both times. After handing the Reign just its second tie of the season, the Flash lost at home to the Reign 2-1. With an all-time home record of 1-1-1 against the Reign, a win wednesday would tie the regular season series at 1-1-1 as well. WAMBACH OUT A MONTH: Upon returning from camp with the US Women’s National Team, Abby Wambach will be out for about three weeks due to her LCL sprain. Wambach, who leads the Flash in every offensive category against the Reign, has been sidelined since May 31st. It has been announced that the forward will complete two weeks of rehab and another two weeks of training before being considered for game play. #REDALERT: The Western New York Flash are calling upon fans to help “red out” Sahlen’s Stadium during 2014. After wearing white kits for home games last year, the Flash will be in all red for Rochester matches this season. Fans are encouraged to wear red apparel to games and usethehashtag#RedAlertwhenonsocialmedia. NEXT GAME: With the end of its four-game homestand the Flash head on the road for one game before returning to Sahlen’s Stadium. The Flash will travel to BBVA Compass Stadium to take on the Houston Dash for the final time this season. Through two games against the Dash, the Flash is still looking for its first ever win against the expansion club, losing the previous two games by a score of 2-1 both times. 2014 SCHEDULE/RESULTS DATE OPPONENT TIME/RESULT Sun. It was a physical game with 23 total fouls, and the Flash led the Breakers in every offensive category. After a scoreless first half, Carli Lloyd scored her fifth goal of the year to put the Flash up 1-0. Brittany Taylor found Lloyd in the penalty box on a well-placed free kick, which Lloyd headed into the side netting past keeper Alyssa Naeher. The lead lasted just over 10 minutes for the Flash, when the Breakers equalized through rookie Nkem Ezurike. The forward was able to finish a through-ball from Maddy Evans. As the game was winding down, Lloyd struck again for the Flash, after a give-and-go with NWSL assist leader Vicky Losada. Lloyd’s brace was her second of the season, and she now leads the team in goals with six. The win moved the Flash into a three-way tie for third place, but, due to a Washignton Spirit win Saturday, the Flash curently sit in a three-way tie for fourth.
