3. Frias goes 3-for-3 in Wednesday’s victory
T-Bones shortstop Vladimir Frias was superb at the plate last night, going 3-for-3 and also drawing a walk in last night’s
4-0 victory against the Gary SouthShore RailCats Wednesday. Frias is currently batting .319 with five home runs and 17
stolen bases in 53 games this season. In the 2014 season, Frias finished with a .273 batting average with two home runs
and 23 stolen bases in 91 games.
Manager John Massarelli
John Massarelli was announced Nov. 6, 2013, as the T-Bones' fifth manager since the team moved to Kansas City in
2003. Massarelli, 48, started this season with an overall record of 716-536 in 12 seasons as a professional baseball
manager. In those 12 seasons, eight of his teams reached the postseason (three missed out by one game or less), and he
took two teams to the Frontier League championship series, winning with Lake Erie in 2009. The Houston Astros selected
Massarelli in the eighth round of the 1987 draft out of the University of Akron. He played 10 seasons in the minor
leagues, reaching triple-A with Houston, Florida and Cleveland. In 932 games as mainly a catcher and outfielder,
Massarelli batted .271 with 835 hits, including 144 doubles, 295 RBIs and 288 stolen bases.
“A minute with Mazz”
Regas will be making his fifth start of the season tonight. Will we see him in this role more frequently heading
down the stretch of the season?
“Yes, at least through the double headers that we have coming up in two weeks.”
Kyle Richards went 3-for-5 in two games. What are your thoughts on his play?
“The scouting report is pretty accurate on him so far.”
What are your thoughts on Casey Barnes’ start last night (7 1/3 innings, three strikeouts, no earned runs)?
“I thought it was good.”

5. T-Bones Schedule
Barnes terrific for T-Bones in shutout
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – T-Bones starting pitcher Casey Barnes threw seven-plus shutout innings and
Aaron Baker finished things off as Kansas City shut out Gary SouthShore, 4-0, Wednesday night at
CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
After giving up a combined 18 runs in the first two games of the series, the T-Bones shut out the
RailCats in back-to-back games, the first time they have done that this season. Barnes (3-3) had a strong
outing, giving up six hits and no walks, while striking out three, in 7 1/3 innings.
The T-Bones, who are now 26-4 when scoring first, manufactured their first run of the game in the
second inning. Vladimir Frias led off the second inning with a single and stole second. Then, with Kyle
Richards at the plate, Frias stole third. When the throw from catcher Jaime Del Valle got away from
third baseman Roger Bernal, Frias headed home for the 1-0 Kansas City lead.
Kansas City added two more runs in the fifth inning. With Brian Erie already on base, Ryan Cavan hit
an RBI single up the middle that scored Erie from third base, giving Kansas City a 2-0 lead. Cavan and
Frias led Kansas City with three hits apiece. After a stolen base by Cavan, the next batter, Nate
Tenbrink, singled to left field and scored Cavan, giving the T-Bones a 3-0 lead.
The T-Bones struck again in the seventh inning, adding one more run to their lead after Cavan scored
from third on a sacrifice fly by Jake Blackwood, giving the T-Bones a 4-0 lead.
Baker pitched a perfect 1 2/3 innings for the T-Bones, getting his second save of the season.
With the four-game split against Gary SouthShore, Kansas City has not lost a series in its last 12, dating
back to June 4, when the T-Bones won two-out-of-three against Amarillo.
The T-Bones (31-22) will begin a home four-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-33)
starting Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark with the first pitch at 7:05. Tickets are available

Blackwood, T-Bones greet Rockford with 12-2 drubbing
Ryan Knippschild (7-4) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, and Jacob Blackwood homered twice to push the Kansas City T-
Bones (37-19) over the Rockford RiverHawks (25-31), 12-2, in front of 6,046 fans at CommunityAmerica BallparkFriday
night. It was the first ever match-up between the teams.
Knippschild worked seven innings while allowing just two runs on five hits and two walks, striking out eight. His only blemish
came in the fifth, when both runs scored on an RBI double by Kevin House.
Kansas City jumped on Rockford starter Roger Lincoln (4-5) early, as Keanon Simon tripled to lead off the first inning and
scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Blackwood, giving the T-Bones a 1-0 advantage.
The T-Bones added to their lead in the third, putting the first three batters of the inning on against Lincoln. Two then scored on
a two-run single by Blackwood before a sacrifice fly by Rico Washington brought the score to 4-0.
After the RiverHawks cut the lead to 4-2, the T-Bones answered in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs, all with two
outs. A solo home run by Jacob Blackwood plated the first run before a wild pitch and passed ball forced the next two home for
a 7-2 T-Bones advantage.
Lincoln left after five having allowed seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in the loss.
Ryan Fox homered off reliever David Wagner in the sixth, and the T-Bones used four extra-base hits, including Blackwood’s
second home run of the game, to plate four runs in the seventh capping the score at 12-2.
Erik Hamren relieved Knippschild in the eighth, and pitched a perfect inning, striking out two. Kyle Heim worked a perfect
ninth inning for Kansas City. Blackwood finished four-for-four with five RBI, pushing his season RBI total to 50. Every T-
Bone batter collected a hit.
