HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL-STAR: The CornBelters were represented by five players
on the West squad in next Wednesday’s Frontier League All-Star Game in Schaumburg,
first baseman Aaron Dudley, shortstop Pat McKenna, outfielder Mark Micowski, third
baseman Richard Lucas and pitcher Race Parmenter. Dudley, McKenna and Micowski
were named starters.
SHINE WITH STREAKS: Mark Micowski holds the longest hitting streak in CornBelters
history from June 10 through July 9 at 24 games, breaking the club record set by Daniel
Cox in 2011. Micowski clinched the record in dramatic fashion with a three-run homer in
July 4 win at Southern Illinois.
ROSTER-FARIA: The CornBelters shuffled their roster going into the week’s action. The
Belters signed right-handed pitcher Cody Gappa and infielder Ty Morris, both rookies out
of Cal State-Monterey Bay. The Belters released rookie infielder Kyle McHugh and right-
handed pitcher Marc Rutledge. Reinstated from the suspended list is right-handed pitcher
Kevin Jefferis, who was 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA in five relief appearances with the Belters
during the first month of the season.
RARE RIBEYE: Returning CornBelter Sam Judah claimed the franchise single-season
record for runs driven in late last season, finishing 2014 with 82 RBIs. Daniel Cox held
the former record of 78 in 2010. Pat McKenna is the club RBI career record holder with
168.
SWING, BATTER BATTER: The CornBelters set new team records in their 24-10 win at
Rockford on August 2. The Belters set single-game franchise records for runs (24), hits
(25) and home runs (8). Pat McKenna set a team single-game record for home runs (3) and
RBIs (9), and Aaron Dudley tied a league mark and set a team record by scoring 6 runs.
On the other end of the spectrum, the 20 runs and 25 hits were the most surrendered in
team history in a 20-11 loss to Southern Illinois on July 30, 2014.
CAREY ON: Brooks Carey returns to Normal for his third season as the team’s third field
manager after spending the first two CornBelters seasons as pitching coach under former
manager Hal Lanier. Carey’s first Belters squad as skipper improved its record by 27
games over the previous campaign. Carey was the pitching coach at Evansville in 2012.
His CornBelters staff recorded ERAs of 4.10 in 2010 and 3.92 in 2011. His Otters staff in
2012 recorded a 3.96 ERA, lowering it from a 5.20 mark in the previous year. He was
pitching coach for the 2008 Cam-Am League champion Sussex Skyhawks. He reached the
AAA level as a starting pitcher in 1985 with the Rochester Red Wings and the
Indianapolis Indians. He played at Florida State University and is a native of Key West,
Florida.

Last time out, earned the victory over the Rockford Aviators, 8-5 (5.0IP, 2R, 2ER, 3H, 2BB, 4SO). --Duffy makes his 39th appearance and 7th start for the Crushers. This is his fourth year in the Frontier League and with Lake Erie. This is only his 9th pro start. Last time out, Duffy received the win against Southern Illinois, 12-3(5.1IP, 3R, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 6SO). LAST TIME OUT: The CornBelters won a franchise record tenth straight as they swept the Washington Wild Things after going to extra innings for a 5-4 win. Cameron Monger pushed his league leading stolen bases total to 32. Jim Vahalik hit 3 RBIs and scored 1 run to contribute 4 of the 5 runs scored. PITCHING IN: Mike Schweiss is the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete-game three-hitter over Rockford on Saturday, walking two while striking out 14. The outing was his second complete game of the season and first complete-game win. He is second in the Frontier League with 105 strikeouts. The Colorado native is 14-13 in his three-season CornBelters career with a 4.06 ERA and a 3.16 strikeout-to-walk ratio. PUSH IN THE CLUTCH: The CornBelters own the second best team batting average in the Frontier League (.276) and have hit the most home runs (70), but hitting in the clutch has not risen to the same level although improving greatly during the past two weeks. • 2. HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL-STAR: The CornBelters were represented by five players on the West squad in next Wednesday’s Frontier League All-Star Game in Schaumburg, first baseman Aaron Dudley, shortstop Pat McKenna, outfielder Mark Micowski, third baseman Richard Lucas and pitcher Race Parmenter. Dudley, McKenna and Micowski were named starters. SHINE WITH STREAKS: Mark Micowski holds the longest hitting streak in CornBelters history from June 10 through July 9 at 24 games, breaking the club record set by Daniel Cox in 2011. Micowski clinched the record in dramatic fashion with a three-run homer in July 4 win at Southern Illinois. ROSTER-FARIA: The CornBelters shuffled their roster going into the week’s action. The Belters signed right-handed pitcher Cody Gappa and infielder Ty Morris, both rookies out of Cal State-Monterey Bay. The Belters released rookie infielder Kyle McHugh and right- handed pitcher Marc Rutledge. Reinstated from the suspended list is right-handed pitcher Kevin Jefferis, who was 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA in five relief appearances with the Belters during the first month of the season. RARE RIBEYE: Returning CornBelter Sam Judah claimed the franchise single-season record for runs driven in late last season, finishing 2014 with 82 RBIs. Daniel Cox held the former record of 78 in 2010. Pat McKenna is the club RBI career record holder with 168. SWING, BATTER BATTER: The CornBelters set new team records in their 24-10 win at Rockford on August 2. The Belters set single-game franchise records for runs (24), hits (25) and home runs (8). Pat McKenna set a team single-game record for home runs (3) and RBIs (9), and Aaron Dudley tied a league mark and set a team record by scoring 6 runs. On the other end of the spectrum, the 20 runs and 25 hits were the most surrendered in team history in a 20-11 loss to Southern Illinois on July 30, 2014. CAREY ON: Brooks Carey returns to Normal for his third season as the team’s third field manager after spending the first two CornBelters seasons as pitching coach under former manager Hal Lanier. Carey’s first Belters squad as skipper improved its record by 27 games over the previous campaign. Carey was the pitching coach at Evansville in 2012. His CornBelters staff recorded ERAs of 4.10 in 2010 and 3.92 in 2011. His Otters staff in 2012 recorded a 3.96 ERA, lowering it from a 5.20 mark in the previous year. He was pitching coach for the 2008 Cam-Am League champion Sussex Skyhawks. He reached the AAA level as a starting pitcher in 1985 with the Rochester Red Wings and the Indianapolis Indians. He played at Florida State University and is a native of Key West, Florida.
