2. The female pelvis because of its
characteristics ,aids in childbirth. It
is a skeletal ring formed by two
innominate or hip bone,the sacrum
and the coccyx.
INTRODUCTION
5. There are four bones in the pelvis.
Two Innominate bones(hip bone)
One sacrum
One coccyx
Each hip bone consists of 3 sections,
ilium, ischium, and pubis.
Bones
6. Joints
There are four joints in the pelvis
1 Sacrococcygeal joint
2 Sacro-iliac joints
1 Symphysis Pubis
The weight of the body is transmitted
through the ischial tuberosities in
sitting.
8. Parts of pelvis
•The ilium, the ischium pubis
• Iliac fossa.
• Iliac crest
• Anterior superior iliac spine
• Anterior inferior iliac spine.
• Posterior superior iliac spine
• Posterior inferior iliac spines.
•Acetabulum
• Ischial tuberosity.
• Ischial spine.
• Superior ramus
• Inferior ramus
• Obturator foramen
9. True pelvis
The true pelvis has a brim, cavity and
outlet.
Brim
The brim is also termed as the inlet.its
boundaries are the sacral promontary and
wings of the sacrum behind the iliac bones
on the sides and pubic bone infront.
10. Landmarks of the brim :
1. Sacral promontory
2. Sacral ala or sacral wing
3. Sacroiliac joint
4. Iliopectineal line
5. Iliopectineal eminence
6. Superior ramus of the pubic bone
7. Upper inner border of the pubic bone
8. Upper inner border of the symphysis
pubis
11. Diameters of the brim :
Anteroposterior diameter : It is a line from the sacral
promontory to the upper broder of the symphysis
pubis.Its 11 cm.
Oblique diameter : It is a line from one sacroiliac joint
to the iliopectineal eminence. Its 12 cm.
Transverse diameter:
It is line between ilio-pectineal lines .Its 13 cm.
13. Cavity
• The cavity extends from the brim
above to the outlet below.
•The brim is round shape ,so all
the diameter is 12 cm.
14. Outlet
Anteroposterior diameter : It is line from the
lower border of the symphysis pubis to the
sacrococcygeal joint. Its measures 13 cm.
Oblique diameter :Its between the obturator
foramen and the sacrospinous ligament. Its 12
cm.
Transverse diameter : Its line between the two
ischial spines and its 11 cm.
