Roman Society
Rome knew four classes of people.
The division was very important to
the Romans.

Starter activity

– in groups match the type of people with
the correct definition
- put them in order from highest class to
lowest class
- then write that information in your books
- time: 5 minutes
Roman Society
Hierarchical structure

Patricians
The highest class of nobles of Rome. All real power in Rome lay
with them.
Equestrians.
The second highest class; their name means the 'riders', as
they were given a horse to ride if they were called to fight
for Rome.
Plebeians
They were free people. But they had little say at all.
Slaves
They were owned by other people. They had no rights at all.
Roman beliefs? What were
they?
Polytheism

-Romans believed in many different gods and goddesses,
demigods (half-humans and half god), and spirits.
-Believed each god had specific powers and controlled

parts of the world!!!!!!

-Believed the gods showed their unhappiness by sending
earthquakes, hailstorms, and other natural disasters.

Steps:
-Using handout, walk around and find info. about:
god’s name, description, symbol & Greek name
- When you finish, sit down & compare answers
with a partner, then as a class we’ll review god’s
info.
- Time: 12 minutes

Goal: To guess which god you are
Rules: “A” gods 1st, “B” gods 2nd
Can’t ask: What god am I? or:
Am I this god?
Time: 2 minutes per turn
4 minutes total

Students who guess correctly get a prize!
