For more than 18 years, RMC Water and Environment has provided public and private agencies in California with a range of wastewater management services. agencies in California with a range of wastewater management services. To facilitate this
work, RMC Water and Environment supports the WateReuse Association, a resource center
that focuses on current policies, research, and educational tools.
According to the WateReuse Association, there are three main reasons we need to
conserve and reuse water whenever possible:
1. Food production. Of the water used daily, 92 percent goes toward producing food.
Water is essential to growing crops for humans and livestock.
2. Power. Turbines and generators require water to operate. Approximately 90 percent of
power plants use water to cool their turbines, while 10 percent of power plants generate
power directly from water flow.
3. Manufacturing. Water is used in the production of most products, including everything
made of plastic. Water is also used in steel production and is essential in turning wool and
cotton into the fabrics used for clothes and other textiles.
