5. Chartered Member (CEng) – Eligibility Criteria
Academic knowledge will be at Master’s Degree level. This may be from:
• A four-year bachelor's degree in a relevant subject and a master's
qualification (or)
• A bachelor's degree plus learning on the job, via short courses, private
study, part time study or other routes
• Professional experience and competence

Incorporated Engineer Member (IEng)- Eligibility Criteria
Academic knowledge will be at bachelor's degree level. This may be from:

Competence A: Optimise the application of technology (Knowledge and Understanding)
Combination of general & specialist engineering knowledge & understanding

Apply appropriate theoretical & practical methods to the analysis & solution of
engineering problems

9. Sponsors details
• One Chartered Engineer registered with the
Engineering Council.
• The second sponsor can be the applicant’s
line manager or another professional
engineer.
10. Interview
PROFESSIONAL REVIEW INTERVIEW (PRI)
• It is a discussion with senior engineering peers.
• Time - 45 minutes.
• The panel have already reviewed your reports/documentation.
• All discussion points (questions) will be related to your application.
• The interview facilitator acts as an impartial manager.
INTERVIEW PROCEDURE
• Introductions: 2-5 minutes
• Demonstrate Competences A to D: 20 –25 minutes
• Professional conduct and commitment: 10 minutes.
• Development Action Plan: 5 minutes
• Close: 5 minutes
WHAT INTERVIEW PANEL ARE JUDGING
• Your level of responsibility and professional judgement.
• Your approach to problem solving (technical content).
• Your commitment to the profession.
• Your communication skills.
• Your commitment to Continuous Professional Development.
Remember: There are NO trick questions.
12. PROFESSIONAL REVIEW INTERVIEW OUTCOME
• You do not hear your results on the day.
• Interview panel recommendation goes to Professional Review Committee.
• Those successful are elected to Institution members and registered with the
Engineering Council as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
• If the interview was not successful, re-apply when ready. Feedback is provided.
Remember: The interview panel/assessors are looking for reasons to pass you.
