The document discusses a faculty technology training workshop at the University of Liberia on computer maintenance. It provides an outline for a presentation on maintaining home computers, including definitions of computer maintenance, things users need to do to keep computers in good condition, and steps to take. The presenter will discuss not placing computers on blankets, avoiding eating or drinking near them, using protective cases, regularly backing up files, cleaning dust, updating antivirus software, removing unused programs, and not letting other users borrow computers. The goal is to educate faculty on basic maintenance to extend the lifespan of their computers.

researching the best option for you and make the
investment with your hard earned money. Based on
this back ground, what is Computer MENTIANENCE?

WHAT DO I NEED TO KEEP MY COMPUTER IN
GOOD STATE?
6. Keep the computer on another surface that won’t
suffocate it — unless you want to replace the hard
drive before it’s necessary. Blankets tend to block the
fans from pulling in the air needed to cool the laptop
as it runs (especially if it’s charging). A lap desk is an
excellent solution to this problem

7. How many times have you had close calls with drinks
near your keyboard? Even one spill on your keyboard
can damage it! Try to avoid eating above your
keyboard as well. Crumbs and other particles will fall
into the crevices, which can cause problems down the
road

8. It is often noticed that You put your expensive
smartphone in a case, so why wouldn’t you put your
more expensive computer in a case? There are many
options available from hard covers (like a cell phone
cover), to sleeves and carrying cases. To protect your
computer at all times, consider a hard case, but any
sort of protection case is better than an exposed
computer

9. You never know when your hard drive might burn out, so it’s crucial
to regularly back up your computer — when the files are gone,
they’re gone. In some cases you’ll be able to recover some of your
files, but not all of them and you may need to hire someone to
retrieve anything at all. That’s a costly endeavor when you could
have had a spare copy yourself. Backing up on an external hard
drive can also help free up your computer’s memory if you need it.
You can also connect to cloud storage for simple and efficient
backups that can happen automatically
Run Backups Once a Week
STEPS TO RUN BACKUPS
Open Control Panel.
Click on System and Security.
Click on Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
On the left pane, click the Create a system image link.
Under "Where do you want to save the backup?" ...
Using the "On a hard disk" drop-down menu, select the storage to save the
backup.
Click the Start backup button.
10. Computers are some of the most efficient dust
collectors known to man. Aside from looking gross
and possibly being an allergy hazard, a dusty
computer will trap heat, which can reduce its
performance and lifespan. The easiest is to
thoroughly wipe the screen, brush and dust the
keyboard once every weekend. This will help your
computer has a long life span.

11. This is one of the most important ways to prevent your
computer from expiring before its time, especially if you
have a PC. The software may be pricey, but it’ll be well
worth when you’re attacked and you save yourself from a
trip the computer doctor. Which could cost you a few
hundred dollars.
Steps to Update Windows Defender
Search Windows Defender
Click Update

12. Every few months, look through the 'Add or Remove
Programs' interface that is found in the control panel.
If there's software on there that you don't use any
more, remove it. This goes triple for browser
toolbars, free games, and other resource-eating bits
of fluff. Be a little cautious, though - some system
drivers appear in this list, and can cause hardware to
stop working if you remove them.
Clean up your software
13. This may seem harsh, but try to think of how you’ll
feel if you hand it over to someone who downloads a
file that contains a virus? You won’t feel good, but to
make matters worse you can’t reasonably ask that
person to fix your computer. You’re the one who let
him or her borrow it, after all — and how were they
supposed to know that file contained a virus? Keep
your computer to yourself.
