1. Be Polite: Don’t Emit Gas
The four most common greenhouse gases (GHG) are carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases
They come mainly from electricity production (33%), Industry—i.e. burning fossil
fuels (20%), and transportation (28%). Agriculture (8%) and commercial and
residential (11%) comprise the rest.
Over 90% of the fuel used for transportation is petroleum based, which includes
gasoline and diesel.
There are tons of ways to reduce emissions while on the road:
Buy a smart car instead! Electric cars and plug-in hybrids greatly reduce
emissions
Drive Smart! Reduce idling time (<30 seconds), keep as little in your car as
possible, use 2 wheel drive, and use cruise control if you have it!
Maintenance! A well maintained car is more fuel efficient, produces fewer GHG
emissions, and is safer!
Also, use public transportation, ride a bicycle, or walk. Leaving your vehicle at
home just two days a week can reduce your emissions by about two tons per
year!!!
