3. Introduction
• The level of secondary education is one of the important stages of education.
Secondary education belongs to the third stage of human life.
• The government of India Appointed the secondary education commission in 1952-53
under the leadership of Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar. The commission studied all
aspects of secondary education of the country and set the following objectives of
education
• i) Development of personality
• ii) Education for Leadership
• iii) Development of Democratic Citizenship
• iv) Education for character building
• v) Improving business efficiency and capability
4. Education in Assam
• Assam, located in northeastern India, is a state known for its rich cultural
heritage, natural beauty, and a strong emphasis on education. Assam is
the developed state at national level and state level in terms of
education.
• Assam boasts a diverse educational landscape with numerous schools,
colleges, universities, and research institutions. The government of
Assam has implemented various policies and initiatives to promote
education and ensure access to quality learning opportunities for all its
residents.
5. School Education in Assam &
Famous School
• Education in Assam is divided in different levels such as Pre-primary, primary,
middle, high and higher secondary schools.
• Free and compulsory education is provided in Assam to the students up to the
age 14years.
• Most of the school in Assam are affiliated to state boards (SEBA) and some of
The schools are affiliated to the central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSC).
• School in Assam are under control of the Directorate of Elementary Education,
Assam.
• Apart from state boards of schools there are also run by CBSC & International
boards. Don Bosco High school and St. Mary’s High school are the well known
schools in Assam.
6. Higher Education in Assam
• Higher education in Assam is equally robust, with a range of colleges and
universities offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral
programs. Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, and Assam
Agricultural University are among the prominent educational institutions
in the state. These institutions are known for their academic excellence
and have contributed significantly to research and knowledge generation
in various fields.
• In recent years, Assam has also witnessed the growth of private
universities and professional institutions, offering specialized courses in
areas like management, law, medicine, and information technology.
These institutions have helped in diversifying the educational landscape
and providing students with a wider range of choices for higher
education.
7. RMSA
• In Assam, the RMSA has played a significant role in improving the secondary
education system and promoting inclusive education. The key objectives of
RMSA in Assam include:
1. Universal access to secondary education: RMSA aims to ensure that all
children in the age group of 14-18 years have access to secondary education.
2. Improving quality of education: The scheme focuses on enhancing the quality
of education in secondary schools by providing adequate infrastructure,
qualified teachers, and innovative teaching methods.
3. Vocational education: RMSA in Assam promotes vocational education to
equip students with skills that are relevant to the job market and enable them
to pursue higher education or employment.
4. Inclusive education: The scheme aims to provide equal opportunities for
education to marginalized groups, including girls, children with disabilities,
and children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
8. SEBA 10+
• The Assam Secondary Education Act, 1961 (Assam Act, XXV of 1961) was passed to
provide for the establishment of a Board of Secondary Education to regulate,
supervise and develop Secondary Education in the State of Assam.
• It started functioning with the conduct of 11 year H.S.S.L.C. Examination of 1962.
• With the creation of the Provinces/States Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram,
Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh out of Assam at different times and with the
establishment of their separate/own Boards of School Education the jurisdiction of
SEBA got reduced. Presently the territory of the State of Assam is the jurisdiction of
the Board.
9. AHSEC +2
• AHSEC stands for Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. It is the
governing body responsible for conducting the Higher Secondary (10+2)
examinations in the state of Assam, India.
• AHSEC conducts the Higher Secondary examinations for both Arts and
Science streams in Assam.
• The AHSEC syllabus for Higher Secondary education in Assam is designed to
provide students with a well-rounded education and prepare them for higher
studies or various career paths.
10. Implementation of Model Schools
• As a part of the Central Government's commitment to make secondary education
of good quality available and in pursuance of Prime Minister's Independence Day
Announcement,2007 to set up Model schools at the block level, the Government
of India decided to set up 2500 Model Schools in KV template, in the first phase,
under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme to set up 6000 Model Schools in
Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs).
• The Govt of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development has accorded its
approval for setting up of Model Schools in 76 Blocks out of 81 identified
Educationally Backward Blocks.
11. Schemes & Awards
• AAROHAN', for mentoring and monitoring of talented students from the remote,
rural and poor families
• Distribution of free bicycles to BPL Girls students upto Classs-X studying in
Govt. and provincialized High/Higher Secondary School”
• Waiving of Admission Fees for the students in Class XI in all Higher Secondary
Schools/Colleges provided that the income of their parents is below or Rs.1.00
lakh (Rupees one lakh) only per annum from all sources.
• Distribution of Free Textbooks
• Waiving of Examination fees and centre fees for poor students appearing in
HSLC and HSSLC examinations
12. • Anundoram Barooah Cash or Laptop Award
Scheme: For who secure 60% In H.S.L.C
• Construction of boundary walls in the
examination centres of HSSLC/HSLC
examination.
• Junior College Scholarship: Under this scheme
students studying in class XI and XII in Jr. College
are provided scholarship @ Rs. 300/- per month
securing 55% to 59% and @ Rs. 350/- per month
securing 60% and above
• Implementation of GUNOTSAV
• Pragyan Bharati: Schooty provided to Girls
those who secure 60% in H.S
