The energy budget equation has been used to understanding many aspects of animal physiology and ecology. This study examined the basic assumptions of various energy budget models and introduced a new model. Models were compared with each other and against empirical data for a lizard. Data were collected in a specially designed wind tunnel in which heat loads could be controlled.
