This is an original contribution presentation created pertaining to the design of a workplace wellness program at Bureau Valley School District 340. It is called "Fit and Healthy Educators." It is a program designed to incorporate diet and fitness education into the busy lives of educators. It is set up to allow times for educators to work on improving their exercise consistency to help achieve goals related to losing weight and decreasing body mass index.

2. WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM?
Workplace Wellness Program at Bureau Valley School District
A workplace wellness program is a program intended to improve and promote health and fitness (SHRM, 2020)
This program is designed to give employees the resources they need to improve their health and create positive
and sustainable lifestyle behaviors (Gamelearn, 2021)
Specifically, this program will work to increase physical activity consistency and improve diet choices
Fit and Healthy Educators will utilize certified trainers, using online meetings and in-person training to teach health
and wellness concepts (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021)
Need Behind this Program: Educators at Bureau Valley lack the necessary knowledge pertaining to healthy
living due to busy schedules and stress
Mission Statement: The mission of the “Fit and Healthy Educators” program involves
education relevant to consistent physical activity and healthier diet choices. This
program aims to provide educators fitness concepts that relate to their wellbeing.
3. PROGRAM INFORMATION
Staff members who want to participate pay $100.00 dues at the beginning of the
year
These dues provide access to:
Certified Online and In-Person Trainers
Healthy meals at lunchtime
Educational online lessons
Program Goal: Utilize the resources throughout the school year to transform
participants into living healthier lifestyles
4. PROGRAM INFORMATION
Program utilizes certified trainers in the weight room and gymnasium
Before school 6:15 - 7:15 A.M.
After school 3:30 - 4:30 P.M.
Specific website given to access all benefits of this program
Participants can access educational database with pre-recorded health education
topics
Participants can also choose to take part in pre-recorded online classes, available
24/7
5. BENEFITS OF PROGRAM
Educational database with health education topics
Database include pre-recorded workouts that can be utilized at any time
Specific times to take advantage of in-person workouts with certified trainers
Healthy lunches provided during school
Convenience of setting a schedule that works best for participant (utilize plan periods, before or
after school)
Education regarding MyFitnessPal and how to utilize it to track diet
Weekly Accountability Check-Ins (Weight, Body Mass Index, Diet Review)

6. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any Bureau Valley staff member interested in improving their lifestyle from a
health and wellness standpoint
Must possess motivation, work ethic, and positive attitude to succeed
Must sign liability waiver and be enrolled in Health Insurance (Harrington, 2020)
Need at least 15 employees to take part (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021)
7. PROGRAM GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Goal(s) and Objective(s): By the end of program, I will have reached my optimal
BMI by implementing consistent cleaner eating and exercise.
Participants will increase their daily physical activity by striving to exercise for at least
30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (during the workweek)
Participants will take advantage of healthier eating options and learn the necessary
knowledge needed to make more frequent and smarter diet decisions.
100% percent of participants will decrease their Body Mass Index throughout the
course of the school year, beginning on August 23 and ending on May 23

Interests and needs questionnaire pertaining to health and wellness (Harrington, 2020)
Weekly weight checks
Body Mass Index assessments & monthly checks (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, 2021)
Food tracked with MyFitnessPal; macronutrients broken down for easy reading
Personal goals set and monitored with trainers
10. REWARDS & INCENTIVES
• Healthier lifestyle (diet, weight loss, decreased B.M.I.)
• Improved exercise consistency
• Learn and implement healthier living strategies and habits
• Enhanced health and wellness knowledge
• Community involvement with prizes donated by local businesses (gift cards, gas
cards, etc.) (Harrington, 2020)
