Lutheran Child and Family Services is approaching its 134th year of operation. In the past, during times of hardship like the Great Depression, the organization relied on support from local churches and farmers to continue providing services to children in need. Now in 2016, Lutheran Child and Family Services continues to depend on volunteers and donations to carry out its mission of compassionate care and counseling. With support from donors, the organization was able to feed over 50,000 people through its food pantry in 2015 and plans to expand its services, such as building a new home and sheltering more children in crisis situations. The letter asks for donations to help Lutheran Child and Family Services make the community a healthier place for all.

Dear «Primary_Salutation»,
As Lutheran Child and Family Services approaches its 134th year, we often find ourselves
looking back to the adversity faced by our predecessors to inform our work of present and future.
During the Great Depression and the subsequent world war, the children in the care of the
Lutheran Child Welfare Association might have gone hungry without the benevolence of local
farmers; if not for the devotion of Lutheran churches throughout Indiana, the plans to build
Lutherwood may have fallen by the wayside and it would never have been called home by the
thousands of children who passed through it halls. Now in 2016, if we were deprived of our
volunteers and friends like you, we would be unable to provide the programs of compassionate
care and counsel for which we are known.
From the very first orphanage to the upcoming construction of the new Trinity House, we are
honored and privileged to have brought you along for the ride. In the past, your generosity has
allowed Lutheran Child and Family Services to feed over 50,000 hungry men, women and
children through the Sharing Place in 2015 and be a beacon of hope to the children under our
roof.
Together, we can feed more people, shelter more children in crisis situations and guide more
children and young adults down the path towards emotional, physical and social wellbeing. Your
gift to the Foundation for Lutheran Child and Family Services, no matter the size, will make a
difference in the lives of everyone we serve. With your support, we can make our community a
wholesome place where anyone can be happy and healthy, for today and many tomorrows to
come.
In His Service,
Sven Schumacher
Chief Executive Officer
