Both zygote and gamete intrafallopian transfer procedures involve
the harvesting and re-implantation of cells into the maternal body.
The difference lies in whether fertilization occurs outside of the body
or within the fallopian tube itself.
In the case of zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), occasionally
known as tubal embryo transfer (TET), the fertility team harvests the
eggs from the ovaries, while sperm collection from the potential
father takes place in the traditional manner. The team then uses the
collected sperm to fertilize the eggs and create a single-cell embryo,
known as a zygote.

3.  Using laparoscopic surgical techniques, the physicians then
introduce the zygote to the fallopian tube and wait for the organism
to descend into the uterus.
Zygote intrafallopian transfer is desirable to many families because it
allows early embryonic development to take place inside the uterus.
Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) takes this process one step
further and allows fertilization to take place inside the body. It
introduces the harvested sperm and egg individually into the
fallopian tube, with the goal of allowing the two to meet in a natural
environment.
Whether the family decides to utilize the ZIFT or the GIFT procedure
