Do’s
• Market yourself as you
• Join and participate in LinkedIn in group
• Use LinkedIn, and get a blog and link it to LinkedIn
• Get biz cards with your name on it
• Spend a little bit of money on the basics
Don’t
• Brand yourself out as a company
• You have 1 pair of hands
• You are not a marketing company
Remember
14. Contracting
• The Good
• Pay
• Expense benefits
• Flexibility
• The Bad
• It’s on the delivery. That the only thing that’s important
• W2- contracting. The worst of both worlds
• Things can stop unexpectedly, very quickly
• The Ugly
• Payment issues
• Can be a constant follow up with invoices
15. What skill set do you need?
•We are all technology companies
18. Recruiters
• Contingent recruitment companies- Michael Page, Robert Half, Ajilon.
• These guys work on a contingent basis, so they aren't payed up front.
• They are generally a churn and burn. Recruiter is working on 15+ positions at once.
• The minute your no longer a good fit for their immediate roles, you go on the back
burner.
• These are the jobs you see advertised on job boards. These guys charge about 15%-
25% of fixed compensation.
• Recruitment Process Outsourcing- Pontoon, Kenexa, Kelly, Manpower.
• They act like internal recruitment functions for companies. Variable fees.
19. Recruiters- Part II
• Jobs are adverted that don’t exist
• The recruiter is not technical
• Jobs requirements are wacky
• Often 3 resumes just have to be sent over
20. Rate negotiation
• Always ask the rate first
• Don’t fall for the last minute rate reduction
• The cards are stacked in your favor
21. How to get round the recruiter
• In the interview
• Bring your resume
• Biz card
• Emails from the recruiter
• Confirm the relationship
• Clarify the job responsibilities
• After interview get interview attendee details
• Receptionist
27. The devil is in the details
• Transportation
• Software
• Mobile dev- devices
• Payment structure
• Awareness
28. This is the end.
This is the part of the presentation when people should clap and cheer
29. Final Tip – How to fill out the
evaluation
“This guy could have invented SharePoint”
“Was this Steve Jobs presenting?”
“I felt I was in the presence of the Pope”
