2.  Periodontal disease: it is the defect that attack the
periodontium which includes, periodontitis, and
gingivitis.
 It is also a disease which can cause a loss of tooth in
man when there is no taken consideration about it.

consequences it is better to deal with the prevention
of that disease.

5.  It is a mechanical system of removing dental plaque
and other soft deposited debris
 There are about four methods of tooth brushing
I. Bass
II. Stillman
III. Charters, and
IV. Roll methods
TOOTH BRUSHING

6.  It is the method that involve the placement of
toothbrush bristles at the gingival margin toward the
crevice at 45o
 This method is very efficient for the removal of the
dental plaque on the specified area
 It is better to use soft nylon bristle in order to avoid
the injury of marginal gingiva.
BASS METHOD

8.  This method include the removal of dental plaque for
those patient with gingival recession
 The angle to place bristles is about 45O and is
placed a half on the sulcus and a half on the
gingival.
STILLMAN’S METHOD

12.  This one is applied for the area of healing after
surgery
 The angle on the tooth is always 45o on the tooth
 The bristle endings are not allowed to pass around
the gingiva
 The bristles are positioned toward the occlusal
surface or chewing surface
CHARTER METHOD

14.  This method include the removal of supra and sub-
gingival plaque and/or calculus
 It must be done carefully to avoid tissue trauma

16.  Flossing will help to remove the debris which may be
found in the embrasure
 It is better to floss once a day to avoid the bacterial
development
 It is the best method that may be use to clean in the
interproximal spaces

18.  For those who are NOT able to use effectively their
arms like kids and handicaps in order to brush they
may use electrical brushes

19.  It is better to change your tooth brushes every three
months
 Remember to clean your toothbrush into running
water to make bacterial moved away.
 Brush by using specified method and respect the
angle to brush effectively.
 Brush about two times a day.

20.  Dentifrices are chemicals used to avoid bacterial
growth
 Among those chemicals we have:
Chlorhexidine
Listerine antiseptic
Fluoride

21.  It is an antibacterial chemical that used in the prevention of
dental plaque
 It decreases the pellicle formation by binding on the oral
structures.
 Its effect is that:
Its stains the enamel according to the taken dose
Altered tasted
It may cause the development of calculus
Chlorhexidine

22.  It prevent and reduce the supragingival plaque
 It is less expensive
 And it may tolerate the taste change and stains which
make it better than the chlorhexidine
Listerine antiseptic

23.  It is good in prevention of cavities
 It is a good inhibitor of the bacterial methabolism
 Hence, it prevent the plaque accumulation on the
periodontal tissues.
FLUORIDE

24.  The management of implant and good treatment also
is one of the needed things
 to prevent the periodontal disease and its
management a dentist has to deliver a good
treatment especially during the restoration to avoid
the compact of food which will cause plaque
development in uncovered spaces.
