Term Paper Guidelines and Rubric
The Term Paper will be on a course-related topic of your
choice. Topics may include:
• Legal issues related to compensation and benefits
• Specific pay/incentive planning techniques, topics, or issues
• Specific job analysis/job design techniques, topics, or issues
• Specific benefits and service topics or issues
• Additional Term Paper Topic suggestions are located within
the module pages
Submit the proposed Term Paper Topic to the Assignment folder
no later than Sunday 11:59
PM EST/EDT of Module 2.
In your Term Paper, be sure to address the following:
• Background and historical perspective on your topic
• Current issues related to your topic
• Your professional experiences/opinions about your topic
• Make sure to use properly cited academic references to
support this information
Expect to take approximately 6-8 pages (double-spaced, 12-
point font) to complete this
assignment. Your work will be graded on completeness, clarity,
originality, interest, grammar,
spelling, and punctuation.
Format of assignments should conform to the following criteria:
• Margins should be 1” in all directions.
• Papers should be double-spaced and in a highly readable 12-
point font (Arial, Times
New Roman, or Verdana are recommended). Headings may be
larger.
• The paper must follow the academic research format (APA)
and (unless otherwise
specified) should include a brief abstract or executive summary
that explains what the
paper is about.
• Format for in-text citations and the Reference page should
also follow APA style.

Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of

Week 02 Discussion- In 200 words
Question(s):
Pick one of the following three cases and present your case
summary:
1. A 7-year-old boy is a patient in the intensive care unit you
work at. He was on a camping trip with his family when he
accidentally fell on the campfire causing severe second- and
third-degree burns over 60% of his body. The clinical care team
tells his parents that it will be critical to maintain their son's
airway and keep his fluid levels high.
a. The father is confused and asks you why his son's fluid level
is important after a burn. How would you explain this to him?
b. After your explanation, the father nods that he understands.
He then asks how you will measure his son's fluid levels. How
would you respond?
c. As a clinician with knowledge of physiology, which aspects
of this boy's condition would you be most concerned about?
2. A 19-year-old college sophomore presents complaining of
frequent diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and weight loss for 2
weeks. Upon further questioning, you learn that 6 weeks ago, he
returned from an overseas summer trip to Africa. You suspect
he has a parasitic GI infection.
a. If he asked you how it is possible he could have gotten such
an infection weeks ago but not had symptoms until recently,
how would you respond?
b. What other illnesses might you consider that may be
responsible for his symptoms?
3. A 26-year-old female presents into the office you work at
concerned that she has been exposed to chicken pox. She recalls
having had chicken pox at 8 years old. You advise her that it is
very unlikely that she will again get chicken pox because of her
adaptive immunity.
a. How would you explain to her what adaptive immunity is?
b. If she was still concerned that she may develop chicken pox,
what are some alternatives you could provide for her?

Questions:
JF is a 64 year old African American male who is transferring
to your practice. He has no complaints, except for occasional
headaches and some lightheadedness when getting up too
quickly over the past month. He admits to minimal exercise and
states “I don’t add salt to my food”. His last visit to his PCP
was 9 months ago.
PMH: HTN, Type II Diabetes, COPD
SH- occasional alcohol, 2-3 cups tea daily, smokes socially
when going out.
Current meds: Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily; Insulin
glargine 20U daily hs; Metformin 1000 mg BID, tiotroprium
(Spiriva) 1 capsule inhaled daily.
VS: 162/90 (sitting), HR 76, RR 16. Ht. 70” Weight 190 lbs.
