Identity and reality are both often skewed and/or compromised to meet the needs and wants of a person or platform. More often than not do people
and markets put on fronts to be perceived in a certain way to gain favor in the public eye. They adapt because they have to in order to stay afloat in
the ever changing world of fleeting beauty and immediate gratification. The world of Panem in The Hunger Games is not much different, in fact, it's
more similar than not. In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Collins uses construction and manipulation of the authenticity of the
characters to show that identity evolves to fit the demands of the prevailing reality.
Much of the Hunger Games is centered around portraying a certain image, or identity if you will. The capital manipulates the weaknesses in their
society and in their people to create an identity of unity and nationalism through the way they present the games to the districts of Panem. This idea of
appearing to be one thing but really being another is ingrained in the society of Panem. District 12, in particular, maintains this image of complacency
for the sake of survival, and Katniss is no exception to this.
To survive, Katniss practices stoicism where she manipulates her emotions to create the identity she needs. She has become accustom to this way of
living, camouflaging her actions and concealing her true emotions to protect not only herself but also the ones she loves (Prim in this instance). She is

Oppression In The Hunger Games
For thousands of years, governments have been oppressing their people. Although their reasons for doing so may have been different, the outcomes
were all the same: a revolt of the people. There are many examples of this throughout history, such as in the French Revolution and the American
Revolution. The Hunger Games, a tale of a dystopian society filled with maltreatment by "The Capitol," displays the path to insurrection triggered by
the mounting cases of misery brought on by their government, that was attacking lower classes of people. By using common themes of oppression and
rebellion found throughout history, The Hunger Games is a striking example of how repression by government will eventually lead to a revolt of the
people.
One of the subtle ways a totalitarian government casts its shadow over its people is through class distinction. By making the privilege gap so vast
between The Capitol and the twelve districts, and being able to choose which districts will obtain the advantage not only during the Hunger Games,
but in everyday life, The Capitol discreetly displays its control over the people. For example, Districts 1–3 have far more resources, sponsors, money,
and publicity than the other districts, thus giving them a higher chance in winning the Hunger Games, which is precisely what the government wants.

Another difference in the novel that's significant is the Mockingjay pin that is given to Katniss by Madge, the Governor's daughter once it's known
that Katniss will be participating in the Hunger Games. Madge is described as one of the few people that Katniss is semi–friendly with; otherwise she
is described as a loner who only has time to do what she has to do to take care of her family. This comes as a surprise to Katniss, who had assumed
that Madge disliked her. This is an important piece of the book because in the movie, Katniss finds the same Mockingjay pin at the local flea
market, and it is given to her by the owner, a woman named Greasy Sae. The significance of the pin is never explained in the movie, and viewers
are left wondering if it will play an important role later on in the film. The director and author make many subtle, yet evident changes between the

Although this could be seen as a result of the context in which these characters find themselves, this proclamation by Katniss sheds light on the
possibility that she thinks there could be more to life than just having kids. However, this statement could also be enforcing social norms. Katniss,
who is presumably supposed to want kids as a woman in this story's society, might be stating that, although she wants to have kids, cannot do so.
This could be a result of the fact that she does not feel that she could properly care for them, or that her world in which she lives is not fit to be the

they are comes with some benefits and some disadvantages. They have been under fed most of their lives which means they are skinny and weak

concept of the hunger games came to her. She was surfing the channels and saw a reality tv show where people were competing to stay in the game
and a footage from the invasion of Iraq. The two concepts mixed in her mind and led her to the hunger games. She published the book in 2008
which was a time when reality shows, like Survivor, were very popular. If the reader approaches this book thinking of it as a reality tv show, a lot of

motivation again to survive for Rue because Thresh would have killed her had it not been for her helping Rue. Because of Rue, she was still alive,

In the book The Hunger Games, the author Suzanne Collins emphasizes the heroic qualities of the characters. The book is set in a dystopian society

doing this for her but also for Prim and Rue. The Technique used is persistence. The reason why Katniss is a hero she strives toward her goal and

The Hunger Games – Essay By Lauren Wheeler Throughout the whole story of The Hunger Games, the author Suzanne Collins' personal story plays a
major role in the events of the annual hunger games, and is a great influence on the personality and development of the two tributes from District 12
and their struggle to survive in the cruel, harsh arena. The story of the Hunger Games takes place in the destroyed nation of North America, which is
now Panem and contains twelve districts. These districts are ruled by the intimidating Capitol. The Hunger Games was created after the districts of
Panem had tried to rebel against the Capitol ultimately failing in the end. As punishment, each district would have to choose 2 tributes, one female and
The girl, whose name is Rue and Katniss decide to team up and work together to destroy the food stash of the stronger tributes called Careers,
which have also teamed up together. After successfully working out a plan, Katniss destroys the Careers food stash and runs to the area where
Rue and her have agreed to meet back up. On the way back, she witnesses Rue's death at the hands of a Career. In order to survive, she decides to
run even further out into the woods hoping to find a way to survive. While she's running, the Capitol then announced that both tributes from the
same district can win together. After this she finds Peeta, lying in the mud covered in leaves and sticks in an attempt to be camouflaged so none of
the tributes could find him. Katniss helps Peeta wash off and tends to a big cut on his leg which was given to him by one of the Careers. For the
next few days, the two hide in a cave allowing each other to rest and show one another love and affection, ultimately hoping to win over the Capitol.
After Peeta is knocked out by medication, Katniss makes the trek to the cornucopia where the Capitol is hosting what they call a feast, but it is
actually just a way to get all the remaining tributes to fight one another. After surviving a near death experience, Katniss makes her way back to the
cave. When she returns, Peeta is somewhat healed and they both make the long hike together to the cornucopia. Once they arrive, they see

to be strong and independent or is that a job for men? Not every female character is vulnerable and needs saving by a strong male character.
Females containing strong and brave traits are not very welcomed in many different stories and are usually seen as a rebel. In today's modern day
literature, there are more novels with strong female characters, but are not very welcomed. Katniss Everdeen is an example of a strong female
protagonist, from the novel, "The Hunger Games". Katniss is not a stereotypical female in Panem, many say she is more masculine than really
feminine. When she is sent to the Capital for the games, she is transformed, more like forced, to look like their ideal female. Katniss Everdeen had a
choice to volunteer as tribute, but did not have a choice when it came to the way she looked. Katniss Everdeen in the novel "The Hunger Games", is
not the Capitols ideal female tribute because she is strong, independent, and a warrior with strive to survive. Katniss Everdeen is not a stereotypical
female character, she illegally hunts, climbs trees and is not worried about her appearance. To the Capitol these are not traits that many females poses

the violence,... It describes the issues through the characters and what happens in the story, and the most significant issue occurs throughout the novel
is the gap between rich and poor people. In the beginning of the novel, Suzanne Collins describes clearly the scene of the poverty, the terrible fear of the
12–district's villagers, in contrast to the wealthy of the Capitol's citizens. The inequality of social classes becomes the theme of the novel because of its

Children in District 12 have no chances for education and have to work as an adult in order to feed their family. Katniss has to hunt illegally and
even risk her life to get into the forest to find food for her family (Sparknotes, n.d.). Some other villagers are not able to hunt so that means
Katniss's family is luckier than many other families in the same district (Sparknotes, n.d.). When she is in the Capitol, the meal, which she is
having, makes her remember about the basic meal at home. "Chicken and chunks of oranges cooked in a creamy sauce laid on a bed of pearly
white grain, tiny green peas and onions, rolls shaped like flowers, and for dessert, a pudding the color of honey" (Collins, S., 2008, p.79). The
luxurious meal shows the significant different in living standard because of the various dishes in the meal in compare with a usual daily bread in
District 12. "I try to imagine assembling this meal myself back home" (Collins, S., p.79). At home, Katniss has to hunt for food, but here at the
Capitol, people just sit there, wait for the meal is ready to be served.
Besides the gap between the Capitol and District 12, the tesserae is the most recognizable system that reflects the inequality of the people in the same
district. The tributes are picked randomly but it seems like the poor children have more risk than the rich children. Poor children have to put their name
