The main goal of the Community Sustainabil-
ity Project is to leave a legacy representing
ASHRAE’s commitment to sustainability that
will inspire future generations. ASHRAE mem-
bers help by reaching out to local charities
and non-profit organizations reduce energy
consumption related to HVAC&R utilizing
sustainable design and materials
This is the first year the Community
Sustainability Project has been student led.
This provided the students with excellent
undergraduate engineering experience.
Students conducted load studies, learned
to read, interpret, and draw design plans,
used software such as Trane Trace, eQuest,
AutoCAD and multiple others in order to
complete the project. With the assistance
of professional engineer Patrick O’Brien of
Dynamic Engineered Systems the students
learned how to size and design a full HVAC
system for a building.
Beverly Farm is an assisted living community
for adults with intellectual or developmental
disabilities located in Godfrey, Illinois. The
campus is an 80 acre community with almost
400 residents.
