Patrick Soon focuses his practice on intellectual property law and
related litigation. He is experienced in assisting clients with their
trademark portfolios including counseling on trademark availability, selection, enforcement, and
handling all aspects of trademark prosecution including resolving interparties proceedings before the
U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).
In addition to trademark matters, Mr. Soon also advises on copyright ability of client materials, has
obtained copyright registrations on behalf of his clients, and handles related intellectual property
business matters such as preparing assignments, licenses, and confidentiality agreements.
Prior to joining WHGC, Mr. Soon worked as an Associate for the boutique intellectual property law
firm of Goodman Mooney, L.L.P. based in Irvine, California. There he served a range of artists,
athletes, and corporations regarding their copyright, trademark, and patent portfolios in transactional
and civil litigation matters. Later, he assisted in a confidential litigation project at the Google
headquarters in Silicon Valley related to their electronic discovery matters as an Attorney for the
Adecco Group for Google.
Mr. Soon obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences with a Minor in English Literature
from the University of British Columbia from his native Vancouver, Canada. He holds a Juris Doctor
from Whittier Law School.
While in law school, Mr. Soon earned a Dean's Citation Medal, was awarded the CALI Award for
Excellence in Intellectual Property Litigation, and received a Fellowship in Intellectual Property Law.
He was also a staff editor of the Whittier Law Review, a national competing member of the Moot
Court Honors Board, and President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Mr.
Soon complemented his intellectual property law education with time spent in Beijing at Tsinghua
University as part of the Chinese Intellectual Property Summer Institute.
