1. France’s Food Security
To further give back to society, Patrice de Spoelberch supports the causes of
his favorite non- governmental organizations and charitable foundations. These
include “Les Restos du Coeur”, a non-profit that aims to assist the poor by
providing access to free meals and enabling beneficiaries to participate in social
and economic integration. This is while maintaining a strong drive against all
forms of poverty. Patrice also supports the NGO Children Action, which aims to
bring a real change in the lives of children.
An example that illustrates the need for charitable foundations such as those
that Patrice supports can be seen in France, where 8.5 million (over 14% of the
population) people live below the poverty line. Many people go without food in a
time where food security has been recognized as a significant human right as
the UN has often declared the significance of the right to food. People should be
able to feed themselves with dignity, and should be able to experience the
independence that comes with food security. The French government has
recognized the dire situation and has now made it illegal for supermarkets
to waste food.
