These are men & women in colorful Morion attire
& masks that portray the faces of Roman
soldiers
They reenact the scene of the Roman soldiers
searching for Longinus by marching along the
town .
5. Moriones Festival
The Moriones Festival portrays
the suffering of Christ & the
story of Saint Longinus who
plunged a spear into the
crucified body of Jesus.
It is celebrated every Lenten
season in Marinduque & in some
places in Mindoro
10. Moriones Mask
Morion masks are usually made of
wood from dapdap, dita, or santol
trees. These trees are abundant in
Marinduque. Making the mask
takes a long time as carving &
painting the mask takes about 1
and a half month to finish.
11. It is traditionally designed to
resemble Caucasian features,
specifically that of a Roman
legionnaire.

about two weeks to finish and dry
