First time not working at an ad agency, and I am officially on the record as saying client side is the
way to go. Was recruited to be a founding member of an in-house advertising and marketing team of
experienced Biogen employees and contractors (formerly Studio B133, now Biogen Creative). As
contract senior copywriter, I work daily with Biogen brand teams, agencies of record, vendors, and
other external parties. Work is a wide range media and content management, everything from
electronic field rep memos, website updates, print and interactive visual aids, journal ads, emails,
newsletter development, recording in studio, storyboards, educational event materials, patient and
HCP communications, internal signage, and video production.

2. An exhausting respite from normality. Was the writer at one point or another on 9 brands, most of
them contemporaneously. Daily deliverables included emails, posters, print ads, manufacturing and
mechanism of action videos, web sites with metadata and site maps, patient and HCP brochures,
sales force detail aids and iPad programs, disease awareness, study recruitment, corporate
communications, and brand concepting in any format possible.

Came in on a Friday to interview for a freelance position and, after 3 hours and 4 interviews, was
asked if I could start at 9 AM on Monday. A lot of heavy science and medical advertising, but also
consumer and direct-to-patient work, as well digital and agency self-promotion. Upon coming on
staff, was made Associate Creative Director/Copy and oversaw a talented team of writers in
concept development, core messaging, and content referencing. Tons of market research and
client interface to boot. Wrote primarily for the Neupro patch, which we launched in 2012, as well
as Divigel for menopausal symptoms.

Jul 1995 - Apr 2008 OgilvyHealthworld/NYC Sr. Copywriter→V.P. Copy Sup.
Originallycalled Rubin-Ehrenthal, with a mix of fashion, food, and drugs; later iterations that
focussed almost exclusively on pharmaceutical clients were Healthworld, Bates Healthworld, and,
following the WPP anschluss, OgilvyHealthworld. Caretaker of numerous brands, with frequent
involvement in new business and pro bono work. Regular client contact necessitated a proficiency at
managing expectations. Partnered with Assoc. Creative Dir. to supervise other teams in group.
Worked on a ton of DRTV and print, RM materials, letters, interactive, and even a 35-minute
menopause DVD starring Cheryl Ladd, thanks to which I now know more about vaginal dryness
than most living men.

Worked closely with Creative Directors to mentor junior creatives. Primary writer on regional
McDonald’s accounts, including the NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Indianapolis,
and Milwaukee co-ops. Responsible for generating cohesive themes for sales promotions, developing
integrated creative, and overseeing TV shoots and all audio recordings and mixes. Other regular
work included print and radio for Chemical Bank, as well as opportunities to volunteer on various
other accounts (a.k.a., trying to keep Creative Artists Agency from poaching Coca-Cola).
