2. Education
MA Architecture Sustainability and Design
University of East London Sept 2009 - Jan 2011
The Masters allowed me to explore the field of sustainability directly through
design and 1st hand work experience. I’m involved with a Passivhaus
style refurbishment with Levitt Bernstein for TSB Retrofit for the future
competition where I redesigned the layout and conducted research
regarding specifications. I am currently handling the Construction Site diary
for the project which involves interviewing key personnel, photographing
and documenting progress of the project.
My second project for the Masters involved testing and adapting a prototype
version of LEED for neighbourhood design in the Bermondsey area of
London . I produced an addendum to the program which was received with
high regard.
In my Third project I designed a Zero Carbon housing scheme in Southwark
as part of a feasibility study. This scheme uses Green roofs to promote
biodiversity and Passivhaus design and solar thermal technology to cut
emissions.
My dissertation explored the possibility of creating mandatory low energy
building fabric efficiency standard for space heating within the retrofit/
refurbishment sector. Investigating the benefits of Passivhaus , and
conducting market research assessing feasibility of a universally achievable
low energy space heating target within existing housing refurbishment .
I conducted the demonstrations of the Passivhaus Planning Package at the
Passivhaus conference which took place at the building centre July 2010.
Organiser ,designer and fabricator of the annual student exhibition which
took place in June 2010 at the university which was deemed a success.
In October 2010 I lectured at the first UK Student Passivhaus Conference. I
was also a member of the team organising the logistics and sponsorship.

Location - Palermo Sicily. Inspired by the study and surveys of works by
Brunelleschi, together with social and environmental studies of Palermo. I
designed a hospice and clinical treatment facility aimed at the occupants
of the impoverished Ballaro District. The project recycled an abandoned
historically significant villa using a combination of traditional local materials
and craftsmanship and sustainable materials such as rammed earth

harvesting systems incorporated into the building. Thus the development
