Loneliness and social isolation are just as much a
threat to longevity as obesity, and the effect
occurs even for people who like to be alone, a
study has claimed. Lack of relationships is a bigger
health risk for people under age 65, researchers
said. “The effect of this is comparable to obesity,
something that public health takes very seriously,“
said Julianne Holt-Lunstad from Brigham Young
University. “We need to start taking our social
relationships more seriously,“ said Holt-Lunstad,
the lead author. The study appears in the journal
Perspectives on Psychological Science.
