4. 3Solar Installations Fall in
China but Rise Worldwide
We are expecting new solar installations worldwide to
increase again, but by more modest proportion than in
recent years: 75 gigawatts, up from around 70 in 2016.
With the Chinese solar drive settling at a less frantic
rate of around 21 gigawatts per year, down from 26
gigawatts in 2016.
5. 4Wind Blows Sideways
Wind Energy is nevertheless maintaining
strong momentum – wind is now one of the
main workhorses in the power markets around
the world. BNEF expects another 59 gigawatts
to be commissioned in 2017, slightly up on last
years’ 57 gigawatts but still short of the 63
gigawatt record in 2015.

US Henry Hub natural gas prices rose sharply in
2016. Starting the year at $2.31 per MMBtu,
they finished December 2016 at $3.68, and
this price is set to stay

Vehicle Milestone
In 2016, sales for Electric Vehicles were 70,000
units, 46% annual growth from around 450,000
in 2015. At the beginning of 2017, advanced
transport teams central estimated a further
jump to 900,000 EV sales.

Energy on a Tear
Corporate purchasing of renewable energy has
become a very hot area. BNEF Research
showed that seven of the 10 largest quoted
cooperation's in the world have committed to
using 100% renewable electricity in their
operations
