Go green
1.
2. More and more people are thinking about the
environmental issues and ecological
condition of Earth nowadays. Why has this
problem become so relevant? What should
we do to save our future? In my opinion,
people have understood that their
irresponsibility causes harm to the natural
environment.
Since school is our second home one should
create healthy environment in the school as
well
3.
4. Paper recycling is one of the processes by which
waste paper is turned into new product
BENEFITS
The school notebooks can be made of recycled paper
which saves a lot of trees as just 1 ton of paper
requires 24 fully grown trees.
The school notebooks might appear dull for sometime
but then students would get adopted to these type of
notebooks which is one of the best way to protect our
environment.
5. It is less energy and water intensive than paper made from
wood pulp. It saves waste paper from occupying landfill and
producing methane as it breaks down.
Investment
The paper recycling machine is quite expensive. So one can
rent it. If a small machine is bought then it costs for about 3-
4 lakh . This will after sometime reduce the cost of
production and notebooks will cost almost half the price to
students…
Thus the main investment is of a machine which recycles
paper...
It may take 2 months to start and after 5-6 months one will
start getting returns
6. Solar panels absorb sunlight as a source of
energy to generate direct current electricity..
BENEFITS
Renewable, non-polluting and available
planet-wide, it contributes to sustainable
development.
Schools can adopt solar panels which
can in future provide electricity free of
cost ..
7. Investment
Solar panels will cost around INR 38 per
watt for 200 and above wattage of good
comabies and brands like
Havells,Tata,etc.
The cost of setting up solar panels is only
high….once set up,the panels can save a
lot of electricty bill and can give high
returns….This helps in conserving our
precious resources…Since it causes no
pollution, it protects our environment..
8. Plants release oxygen and absorb
carbondioxide but only during the day time…
2 Plants which not only release oxygen 24
hours in a day but also absorb harmful toxic
gases present in air are spider plant and
snake plant…..
Spider Snake
plant plant
9. Benefits
The Snake Plant cleans air better than most other
indoor plants as it has the ability to absorb
excessive amounts of carbon monoxide.
Additionally, it emits oxygen and filters other toxins
from the air such as benzene, xylene,
trichloroethylene and formaldehyde.
The Spider Plant produces oxygen whilst
purifying the air in your home and office by
absorbing carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and
xylene. Additionally, Spider Plants are non-toxic
and are in fact edible, making them safe for pets
and young children.
10. Investment
These plants can be grown by the school
itself in pots where its seeds does not cost
much.
If each child in a class grows one spider or
snake plant and deposit it in the school or
keep it in her/his class on his/her birthday
then the air surrounding the school will be
much pure providing a healthier environment
for the children to study in school………..
11. Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and
storage of rainwater for reuse on-site, rather than
allowing it to run off.
Benefits
It will reduce consumer utility(water supply) bills for
schools…..the water can be stored later to water the
plants surrounding the school and in sweeping the
flowers and washing the rooms…
Investment
The Rainwater harvesting costs are site specific
12. And thus its difficult to give a generalised
cost but approximately it is about INR 4.5
lakhs to harvest 170 million litres of water
annually..
But first of all, the major components of
a rainwater harvesting system - rain and
catchment area - are available free
of cost…….
13. The schools have such big playgrounds.
So a part of it can be used to grow plants
that will ensure greenery in the school.
Its benefits are that they will provide shelter
to many homeless birds and insects
It will also provide school some basic
amenities such as fruits and vegies, etc.
14. The investment for a school garden will be
just of buying seeds and hiring an
experienced gardener who would ensure
timely maintenance of the plants and
providing it organic fertilisers and no any
harmful chemicals and pesticides
All organic methods to be used….
15. More the digital work is promoted lesser will be
the use of paper .
In schools generally during exhibitions or annual
day or any big event a lot of non recyclable
materials are used for decorations…
The schools can promote digital teaching..
On exhibitions, children can make their projects
using waste recyclable materials
On annual day also the decorations can be done
through flowers and natural colours..
16. Instead of making files the children can make their
pesentations in the form of a word document or a
power point presentation ..Such methods of
learning and teaching helps in creating interest
among the students also protect the environment
from the cutting down of trees as less paper will
be consumed.
Investment
Also the investment in this is mainly of buying
digital plasmas and computers for the use of
children atleast one in each class…
Digital learning makes learning much faster as we
can see what apps like BYJU’S do..
17. Electric buses will reduce the use of petrol and in
turn cause no pollution in the surroundings..
The electric buses will be charged in some time
and can move a distance upto 400 kms.
If the school promotes electric cars and vans as
well ran by school drivers then the use of private
transport will also decrease and parents will prefer
these school vans..This can also make our
surroundings less polluting and green…….
18. The diesel or CNG cars may also help in
reducing pollution as they emit harmful
subsatnces but in very very small amounts
Investment
The cost of investment in electric buses is
too much but cost of electric car is about
25.3 lakh approx..
Diesel or CNG vans may cost starting from
2-3 lakh and buses starting from 5
lakhs………..
19. There should atleast be 1 different green day in a
month in school for each class where the children
of that class would clean the whole school and rid
the school of dirt and other harmful things..
The classes can be divided into four parts where
one part will collect the garbage, the second would
separate it as recyclable and non recyclable
things, the third will water all the plants and the
fourth will put up new plants . Next month they can
interchange their tasks to ensure uniformity .There
can be experienced farmers for guidance as well.
20. Investment
The investment required is just of different
garbage boxes for separation of garbage..
The seeds to plant new sapplings will be
brought by the students themselves from
their home itself.
THUS NO SUCH INVESTMENT IS
REQUIRED OTHER THAN TIME
MANAGEMENT...........
21. Reading books is a good habit but the
children should understand the keeping a
collection of books is useless.Instead they
can issue school library books
Through this , the students would get a wide
range of books and their money as well as
paper would not be wasted on buying books
Thus only the school will need to keep a
good library with books of their interest so
that less students would buy books..
22. Due to the increase in wires and electric
poles , the number of birds are depleting day
by day
Thus to save birds our school can make
some small shelters and nests on trees
Also the school can keep water containers
everyday on the terrace so that the birds can
drink water and quench their thirst in such
hot weather
