1. DESIGN THINKING FOR STUDENTS
Design thinking is a non-linear process that includes challenges, various assumptions, and redefining
problems through certain ways to create innovative solutions, a viable prototype, and finally, a solution.
It empowers students with problem-solving skills through innovation, empathy, and collaboration. Let's
explore its stages and how it sparks creativity and unleashes students’ potential.
2. DEFINE THE PROBLEM
Identify, understand, and research the core issue that is to be solved. Students are encouraged to ask questions and
gain insights to grasp the concept of the issue they aim to solve.
EMPATHY-DRIVEN SOLUTIONS
Empathy plays a pivotal role in the design thinking process. Students have to step into the shoes of the people they are
designing solutions for, to understand and address their needs and challenges.
IDEATE
Design thinking encourages students to generate a multitude of ideas without judgment. This can include brainstorming
sessions with their classmates and instructors where no idea is considered too outlandish. This freedom and safe space
allow seamless flow for fresh and innovative solutions to emerge.
PROTOTYPE AND ITERATE
Design Thinking promotes a hands-on approach,
encouraging students to test their ideas through
sketches, models, or digital simulations so that they can
improve themselves through feedback, testing, and
refining solutions based on feedback.
TESTING
The final stage of design thinking is testing. Students work
in teams and embrace diverse perspectives to formulate
the ideal solution and finally test the designed prototype.
This allows students to use previous results to redefine
more problems, run further iterations with previous steps,
and to find or rule out alternative solutions.
3. Design thinking equips students with the tools to navigate complex problems, embrace innovation, and creativity. By
instilling the above-mentioned principles, instructors at Pacific World School empower students to become proactive
problem-solvers, ready to shape a better future.
