This is a writing portfolio that I compiled for my Multimedia Communication Capstone course. It contains samples from my professional, academic, and personal lives.
2. Welcome
Thank you so muh for taking the time to look at this. What this
portfolio contains is a collection of my finest work, both during
my time at UCSB and in the professional world.
It’s been a long time coming, filled with cliche peaks and valleys.
However, at this point in time, I am proud to be able assemble a
portfolio such as this.
As ironic at this might sound coming from a writer, I don’t really
have much else to say at this point in time. So strap in, open your
mind’s eye, and have yourself a good time.
Sincerely,
Oscar Shayne Pearson

1. Presidio Sports
Presido Sports is an onlne sports
publication based in Santa Barbara
County. I worked for them over the
course of a calendar year, writing
stories, pitching ideas for features,
and doing live in-game updates.
While the deadlines were soft by
journalistic standards, one impor-
tant thing that I learned at Presidio
was the importance of story fram-
ing. Being a community-based
publication, I had to maintain the
tone and voice that Presidio was
known for.
9. 2. The Monterey Herald
Every career has the proverbial
“humble beginnings”. For me,
the Monterey Herald was the
first step on my career path.
Why Herald sports editor John
Devine would give a kid with
zero experience a chance is
beyond me, but I am eternally
grateful.
10. 2a. The Monterey Herald Sample: My First Article
This article is a testament to how
dedicated I am to my writing. I
drove three and a half hours to
the game site, wrote the story, had
it submitted by 11pm, and then
immediately drove back home,
because I had track practice the
next day.
And you know what? It was fun as
heck, and I’d do it again
11. 3. Fourth and 4ever: Football Blog
Fourth and 4ever has mainly been
an avenue for me to practice football
analysis, on both NCAA and Profes-
sional levels.
I do full game summaries, previews,
predictions, and any other type of
article that I find appropriate at the
time.
16. 4. Pearson’s Place: Personal Blog
While it’s evident that I
have multiple avenues for
writing, there will always
be pieces and articles that
belong in the“miscellane-
ous”category.
With this in mind, I started
my own blog for anything
that I have always wanted
to write about, but had
never had a proper to do so.
20. 5. Shayne’s World: Where To Find It All
W
Everything featured in this portfolio and more can be
found on my professional website, Shaynepearson.com.
I made the website myself using an HTML template, and
also fine-tuned the CSS. The website itself is another
example of how much I’ve learned over the years.
Hopefully, after looking you through
this, you can see that various forms of
writing and storytelling are things that
I genuinely love.
Once again, I’d like to thank you
for taking the time to view this and
allowing me to showcase my work.
It’s been a great past few years, and I
look forward to using my experince to
ensure that I’ll have many more.
