 Oversee the instructional, food service, athletic, transportation, and maintenance
programs for the entire district.
 Make administrative decisions necessary to ensure the proper functioning of all
aspects of the total school program for the district.

 Athens City Schools was named one of twenty-four Alabama school systems
recognized for meeting the needs of families choosing schools for their children. The

 Athens High School received the Silver Award of America’s Best High Schools by
U.S. News and World Report 2009-2010 and 2012-2013. The award is presented to
schools that have demonstrated commendable performance on state tests and
proficiency rates of all students, including the least advantaged. ( Previously, AHS
received
 Athens Middle School received the Making Middle Grades Work Gold Award for
Improved Achievement in 2009. Athens Middle School was one of seven middle
schools in the nation to receive this recognition and one of three middle schools in
Alabama.
 Brookhill Elementary School was selected by Redbook magazine as one of
“America’s Best Schools”.
 Athens Middle School is one of four middle schools in Alabama to participate in the
21st
Century Learning Initiative co-sponsored by Microsoft and Alabama Best
Practices Center.
 Athens Middle School and Athens State University partnered to create the SUCCESS
program, a partnership that will help AT-RISK students stay in school and graduate
from high school.
 Elementary schools in the ACS district implemented a leadership theme using
Stephen Covey’s The Leader in Me as the model.
 Julian Newman Elementary received the President’s National School of Excellence
Award.
 On the average, Athens City Schools has 1or 2 students yearly who were named as
National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Semi-Finalist, or Commended Student.
 Athens Middle School has been selected as a Making Middle Grades Work (MMGW)
demonstration site.
 Athens High School offers two Pre-Engineering electives which provide an
introduction to the various fields of engineering.

 Athens Elementary School was recognized as a “Torchbearer” School, being
recognized as a high-poverty, high-performing public school.
 Construction projects included: a new science wing and a spring sports athletic
facility at Athens High School, a new physical education gym at Julian Newman
Elementary, renovations at all schools, and a new central office building.
 School bus transportation was offered in the district for the first time during the
2007-2008 school year.
AMORY SCHOOL DISTRICT -Amory, Mississippi 1992 to 2003

Improved the football stadium by adding new bleachers on the home side and a new

• In charge of transportation, maintenance, and grounds upkeep for Caledonia
Elementary, Caledonia Middle School and Caledonia High School.
• Supervised and evaluated certified and non-certified personnel; developed and
documented staff development activities of school personnel.
• Developed and administered yearly budget, bookkeeping, and disbursement of funds
for all three schools in Caledonia.

Bridges, Jr. Page 4 • Requested and received grants from CREATE, Phil Hardin Foundation, and Weyerhaeuser to initiate an Onward to Excellence Program (OTE) in the Amory School District. • Upgraded technology at all schools, including wireless labs at high school and middle school. • Added an Allied health program at the Vocational-Technical Center. • Initiated summer enrichment programs at East Amory Elementary School and West Amory Elementary School • Renovated and/or made additions to all existing school facilities within the district. Improved the football stadium by adding new bleachers on the home side and a new concession stand facility. • Initiated an integrated science program at Amory Middle School. • Initiated an alternative education program for students. • Upgraded the district's transportation system with the purchase of new buses. • Initiated plans for a school bond issue for the purpose of renovating existing facilities at all four schools. $4.5 million bond issue passed with 88% approval. • Utilized an additional $3.5 million from state MAEP funds for building additions and renovations LOWNDES COUNTY SCHOOLS -Columbus, Mississippi 1987 to 1992 Caledonia High School -Caledonia, Mississippi Principal/Athletic Director. Total Enrollment 375 (Grades 9-12) • In charge of transportation, maintenance, and grounds upkeep for Caledonia Elementary, Caledonia Middle School and Caledonia High School. • Supervised and evaluated certified and non-certified personnel; developed and documented staff development activities of school personnel. • Developed and administered yearly budget, bookkeeping, and disbursement of funds for all three schools in Caledonia. • Administered and supervised the instructional program. • Implemented policies mandated by the school board. • Supervised all extracurricular activities. • Maintained school records in accordance with local and state policies. Highlights: • Initiated AP English program for Grades 9-12 and AP Mathematics program for Grades 8-12. • Implemented the first calculus class in the Lowndes County School System. • Implemented a Gold Card Program as an incentive for good grades. • Only school out of 9 within the district to receive clear accreditation rating with no recommendations for improvement. • Received Southern Association accreditation status during my tenure as principal.
