LOI Non for Profit Sector
I don’t have to tell you how unique Israel is…
What I do want to show you in this modest appeal, is just how extraordinarily unique our
work is, within the educational infrastructure of the State of Israel, or more so, how our
organization uniquely acts within the scope, and, in relation to, the field of learning
differences and learning disadvantages in Israel.
I have learned that you, Ms. Parker-Fisher, represent a major, worldwide foundation, whose
concern is to ensure that disadvantaged populations in all corners of the globe, receive –
proper care, proper treatment, tailored and professional education, social and welfare care,
and mostly, a welcoming ear that is scrutinized to their difficulties, listens to their voices,
THEIR needs. In that respect, I fear , that Israel, being a young country with a large
segment of immigrant populace, suffers from a high percentage of disadvantaged young
people. That is the problem we have set out to face.
In 1860, “Alliance” undertook an educational transformation of Jews that had been coming
to Israel from North Africa, Iran, Iraq and the Mediterranean countries.
Some 150 years later, in 2001, “Kol Israel Haverim” decided to further advance the
educational vision of “Alliance” by allocating its resources primarily to providing quality
education to youth-at-risk living in disadvantages neighborhoods in Central Israel.
We believe in “leaving no child behind”, and that is why we have established the Sha’ar
School network, which takes upon itself to bridge scholastic gaps in underprivileged areas,
promote educational excellence by increasing the number of high school graduates in
Israeli universities and by providing the impoverished, the needy, with a belief through care
– an independent belief of themselves and their capabilities within the existing system.
Today, we are active in over 50 public schools in central Israel, but we want to further our
reach, expansion our student populace.
This is the reason for writing you. I have reason to believe, that since OAK is looking to
expand its outreach globally, and to help not only the youth of the USA or Europe, but other
regions in the world as well, I feel that perhaps, you might be interested in partnering with
us on this social challenge.

APPEAL
A Charedi child is taught from infancy to obey blindly without question. Sexual abuse is an
issue which is never heard of or spoken of in the Jewish world. In our modern culture it has
become an epidemic, and people are only just now beginning to realize that even within the
boundaries of our Jewish communities, child molestation can happen. You need only look
at the headlines of today’s newspapers’, to know that the issue of child abuse is not going
anywhere soon. According to CBS Miami, “a 3-year old boy was battered to death after
being molested; Charges of failing to report a case of child sexual abuse in a Florida school
have been dropped against several teachers”.
For over twenty years I have studied the topic of child molestation, have met and lectured to
hundreds and thousands of women, children and their families, in the Charedi and
Ultraorthodox communities, in Israel and in the States.
I am contacting you after having lectured throughout the States and in Israel on the subject of Child
molestation. The lecture I am offering is conducted as a feedback lecture, a method of stimulation,
an active lecture, whereas the audience takes an active part in the event, asks questions, speak of
his/her own experiences and concerns, specifically those which they need to address locally,
regarding their own schools, their own specific methods of education, their core family values, and
so on. The lecture will address the issue of finding ways to keep our children safe; to be aware
ourselves of child molestation happening in our back yard; to talk openly about sexual abuse in our
community and to reach out back to our children and to ‘take our community back into our own
hands’.
As a developmental psychologist for over 20 years, I have founded and now direct the
Crisis Center for Religious Women in Jerusalem, Israel, where topics such as domestic
violence in the ultra religious orthodox communities, are addressed. The Center holds
approx. 2000 workshops each year to educate Chareidi children from ages three to
eighteen, on prevention of sexual abuse. The Crisis Center for Religious Women has been
providing for over 20 years, emotional support and counseling to countless victims of sexual
abuse in Israel and abroad.
Since I plan to be in South Florida during the course of February 2014, I would be very
happy if we could arrange to discuss ways in which to bring this important issue to the
people of your community. I am certain that your community, its children, families, men and
women, would be most grateful for the opportunity to learn more, as well as given practical
tools on dealing with the problem of child abuse, in their community.
I believe that your community too, could benefit greatly from this highly interactive and
educative lecture.
safe, and taking your community back into its own hands, back from those who wish to
abuse it.

CASE STUDY
Wili was only four years old when he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. His
mother was thankful that the problem was diagnosed. She had not known what to do with her
son’s violent tantrums, his compulsive pacing up and down in his room, his inability to play with
other children. Wili had been a lovely baby, but when, at the age of 2 years old he had still not
developed speech, and instead acted violently, his mother had to quit her day job and spend all her
time with Wili.
By the time JERUSALEM SEALS opened last year, a subsidiary of EASTER SEALS USA,
Wili’s mother was just about to give up. Israel, not to speak of its capital city Jerusalem, did not
have, up until last year, a place for children like Wili. Children, who, with above average
intelligence range, deal with social difficulties, inability to communicate, repetitive and violent
behavior, impairments in socialization.
A form of Autistic disorder, if not diagnosed early in life, it can lead to a life of baffling
struggle & hardship. While there is no cause or cure for Autism, or a known singular effective
treatment, Autism is treatable. Children with Autism CAN make significant progress. Through
therapy and treatment, children like Wili can now lead meaningful and productive lives. Jerusalem
Seals, a subsidiary of EASTER SEASLS USA, has finally made it possible for children like Wili, like Sally
and like Rachel, to live a better life. The challenge is very much out there. Help us, help these above
average intelligence children get the care and love they need, and the treatment they deserve.
According to Maariv (Oct. 11, 2010). When EASTER SEALS USA Director visited Jerusalem
two years ago, he was astonished that a treatment center like EASTER SEALS USA had not opened in
Jerusalem before. “It was baffling” he told the Maariv reporter “Jerusalem is a city vibrant with so
many intelligent children, so many creative possibilities, yet it was all going down the drain as long
as this tremendous potential was not realized”. He continued: “Children with Autism suffer from a
huge deficit of understanding from teachers, peers and parents. They have enormous socialization
and behavioral impairments, they suffer severe violent struggles. Thus the challenge of locating
them and giving them the satisfactory treatment they need so desperately is important if we are to
share with them their enormous possibilities for the future – all this was not available in Israel at all.

Stormy Sketch of today’s weather
The snow is piling up in the Israeli capital city. Thousands were cut off from
electricity. President Rivlin made a surprise visit.

Revuen Rivlin this morning (Wednesday), who had given them not just a hot cup of tea but a

The terror attack is changing the vision of
Paris for tourists
“I admit. There is hysteria among Israelis,” Eyal Kazhdan, CEO of ‘Flying Carpet’ tours, told
Channel 2 reporters. “Dozens have requested for us to change our destinations and not
travel through Paris or Euro Disney, for example. We will keep on looking out for
developments." However, with regard to regular flights to France, there have not been
many cancellations.
Is Paris losing its charm for tourists? Many travel agencies that are used to organizing tours
for dozens of Israelis traveling to Paris each year are now admiting that many families have
requested that Paris will not be their destination this year. They have been calling their
travel agencies in order to request changing the destination of their tours. Many are still
weary of the terror that has targeted Paris in the last few days.

Tsefat students travel to their finals on a jeep
Safed high school students came today by jeep through the snowy terrain in
order to complete their finals.
The school day for many Northern Israeli students has been canceled due to the harsh
weather and the huge pile up of snow. But what do you do if you are about to finish high
school and the only thing that was in your way was the matriculation exam that is required
to finish high school, a test that certifies your entry into adult life?
Many Safed students did not even think twice: “We prepared hard for our maltricalculation
exam and we are not about to give up now just because of a meter or two of snow." The
Safed Multidisciplinary School creatively announced that “Operation Antigone” was on its
way.
This operation was named after the same Antigone who attempts to secure a respectable
burial for her brother Polynices, even though this act is punishable by death. .Anyway,
Operation Antigone was crowned a success.
Today (Thursday), students were brought to the school by large 4X4 Jeeps, which made
their way with great effort through turf, wind and snow so the students can participate in
their maltricalculation final exams at the school. The event was photographed later on the
snowy slopes.
School Principal Ofer Zafrani told Channel 2 that he was happy that all the students could
make it to the school and wished them to be successful with their exams, despite the
stormy weather conditions.
