WOMEN’S LACROSSE DATA INITIATIVE
Landscape of Lacrosse: Participation in women’s lacrosse has exploded in the last 35 years. More high
schools are offering girls lacrosse which has resulted in an unprecedented 109% growth rate in women’s
participation at the collegiate level. Interest in the game has increased such that this past Memorial Day
Weekend saw the launch of semi-professional women’s lacrosse with the United Women’s Lacrosse
League (UWLX). Despite this significant progress, the women’s
game has yet to capture the attention or support of corporate
partners, manufacturers or media quite like the men’s game.
Importance of Data: At the inaugural Inside Lacrosse Industry
Summit held in May 2016, business leaders in lacrosse and
even those from the NFL, NBA and NCAA, all agreed that
understanding the lacrosse player, fan, and supporter is
essential and data is the key in gaining that intelligence. Unfortunately, the women playing the game
have not been as vocal as the men, resulting in very little empirical data in the market on the
preferences, buying habits, and values of female lacrosse players. As a result, no hard numbers exist to
prove the validity of the marketplace and champion what female players need and want. This year
women’s lacrosse has a marketable platform to showcase the sport and an opportunity to aggregate
valuable information that can prove its value.
The Program: Throughout the summer and fall of 2016, Bquipped will be spearheading a campaign to
collect data on women’s lacrosse players. Program participants will distribute the Women’s Lacrosse
Data Initiative Survey to their respective camp, clinic, tournament, or league organizations. Each
program participant’s survey will feature a custom URL specific to their organization which will enable
distinct data tracking. At the end of the program, Bquipped will analyze the collective data and
distribute a Women’s Lacrosse Market Report with each participant as well as their individual data.
The Invitation: We are inviting select women’s lacrosse organizations to participate in our data
collection initiative. In order to collect large amounts of data in a short amount of time, eligibility will be
limited to those lacrosse organizations with a database of more than 10,000 female lacrosse players
(including past players).
