Producing Our Film Concept
1. 1. INDIVIDUAL CONCEPT IDEAS
2. GROUP FEEDBACK FOR MY
IDEA
3. GROUP CONCEPT
4. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
5. FINAL FILM CONCEPT
2. INDIVIDUAL CONCEPT IDEAS
In this part of the lesson, we had to individually think of film concept ideas that we
could use as the outline of the plot in the film.
We would then feedback the ideas in our group to find out which ideas we thought
would be the best to use.
3. INDIVIDUAL CONCEPT IDEAS (MY IDEA)
The concept:
A mind-controlling antagonist forces people to
get into his car so that he can trick them into
jumping off a bridge. The police try to figure
out the reason behind the series of suicides.
The main characters:
- Mental antagonist
- Antagonist sidekick
- 2 protagonist police
(wo)men
- 4 victims
Main setting locations:
- The police station
- Antagonists’ hiding
place (e.g.
abandoned barn)
- A bridge
Scenario:
A young woman is walking back home from a party in a dark setting and
while walking down her street, gets kidnapped into a car. The police come
over the next day to analyse what had happened. They realise that it’s a
serial killer. Throughout the film, they try to figure out his motive behind it
and try to prevent any future killings. In the end, the murder is solved.
Target audience:
- Young adults or
middle aged adults.
- People who are
interested in the
crime/thriller genre.
4. GROUP FEEDBACK FOR MY IDEA(CAN ALSO BE SEEN ON THE GROUP MEETINGS PAGE)
Feedback 1
The overall concept of the film
is good, it could be very
interesting to watch. However,
to improve the film could have
more events in the plot line to
make it more interesting,
adding a plot twist in the
middle would be a good idea.
Feedback 2
The idea is quite original and
unique, this could make it very
interesting to watch. I think that
adding an enigma code in the
beginning would make it even
more interesting and thrilling. The
idea of the mind-control is a bit
far fetched and it suits more into
a sci-fi genre rather than a
crime/thriller genre.
Feedback 3
The middle part of the
plotline is a bit basic and
there is no real climax to
the story. However, the
beginning of it is very good
and would look very
interesting as a title
sequence.
My group then came back together and we discussed each of our ideas. We spoke about the
advantages and disadvantages of each idea.
5. GROUP CONCEPT (CAN ALSO BE SEEN ON THE GROUP MEETINGS PAGE)
In this part, we all brainstormed our ideas in the group. This meant that we could each discover
what we had thought about doing and we received feedback on our idea from each group
member. This helped us understand what was good in our film ideas and what could be improved.
Group concept:
A victim gets kidnapped into a car by a serial killer, there’s a scene in the car where music is
played over the diegetic sound and they drive to a bridge, there are jump cuts between the woman
trying to jump off the bridge and a news report where the news reporter is reading the news saying
that there is a murderer on the loose. The woman jumps off the bridge and is found the next day
by the police. The police try to figure out who is the killer and what the motive is. In the end, they
find the killer.
The main characters:
- The antagonist
- The victims
- The police people
The main locations:
- The bridge
- The police station
- The car
- The road where the kidnapping happened
6. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Feedback 1
The concept of the film is very
interesting, it is good that
you’ve added an enigma code
in the beginning as it shows
that you’re already thinking
about what to put into the film
title sequence.
Feedback 2
The whole idea of the non-
diagetic sound is very good
but the music needs to be
perfectly matched to make
sure that it suits the scene and
builds the tension well. The
enigma code is also very
interesting and could make the
audience really interested in
the film.
Feedback 3
The whole idea of the film is
very good, it is unique and if
you use the right mise-en-
scene and props, it could give a
really eerie feel to it which
would definitely engage the
audience from the beginning of
the film.
We then pitched our idea to the class. This was done so that we could get an objective view on our
idea and also to get any suggestions to see how we could improve our film.
In the next part, we took into account all of the feedback and then finalised the idea into a final film
concept.
7. FINAL FILM CONCEPT
The concept:
In the beginning the villain is taking pictures of the victims over a course of a couple of days (this
shows he is stalking them). There’s an establishing shot of their room/hiding place which shows the
victims’ pictures on the wall with notes attached to them. We then get to the scene where he is about
to kidnap the woman, he is in the car waiting for her. The woman is stumbling as she is coming back
from a party late at night. He kidnaps her into the car and drives away. There’s a scene in the car,
while the kidnapper is driving and non-diagetic sound is used over the victims struggles and this is
where the titles come in. We get a scene where she jumps off. The police is then called the next day
and they add her case to the series of suicides. The police then try to work out who is behind these
killings and what their motives are. The plot twist in the middle is that the killer is actually getting
money for killing people. In the end, the killer is captured and gets killed in the process of trying to
catch him.
The main characters:
- The antagonist killer
- Antagonist sidekick
- Other victims
- The police people
Main locations:
- The bridge
- The road where the kidnapping happened
- The police station
- The killers planning room
