According to Environmental Protection Org., UK, “Pollutant emissions
from aircraft at ground level are increasing with aircraft movements.
The main pollutants of concern around airports are nitrogen oxide
(NOx) emissions.”
NOx, CO2, O3, and Particulate Matter are the key pollutants observed
around airports. These pollutants are responsible for lower
atmospheric pollution that directly adds to global warming.
Ozone is generated even during the flight of the aircraft and that
contributes in polluting the stratosphere directly. This contributes to
the greenhouse effect.

Meteorological factors like wind speed/direction, temperature
values, rainfall, and relative humidity play an important role in
spreading air pollution, especially at airports.
These conditions affect the landing/take-off (LTO) cycle which in
turn affects air pollution dispersion. Hence, pollutant emission
monitoring at airports is done during the LTO cycles.
All mitigation strategies can be adopted and monitored during
the cycle to understand whether they are effective or not.
The availability of real-time data while performing these
experiments makes it extremely easy to verify and work further.
