2. IDAP - Background and Key Objectives
Integrated Data Analytics Project (IDAP) Background
To support the NIH’s strategic goal of enabling Data Driven Decision Making, the NIH Reporting
Community requested that nVision optimize, improve, integrate and align the reporting infrastructure
with the business intelligence needs of the NIH. These requests led to the Integrated Data Analytics
Project (IDAP).
The aim of IDAP is to integrate data across business functions to provide the NIH Reporting
Community with a view of the “big picture” to assist in making data-driven decisions, while providing
information with a more uniform look and feel.
Key Objectives
Data Integration: Implement an integrated nVision Data Model which will provide extended analytical
capabilities to the NIH Reporting Community.
Information as a Service: Serve as NIH’s official data broker and data distribution hub by securely
supporting several key downstream systems via both real-time and scheduled information transfer.
Reduce nVision’s Reliance on the Mainframe: The goal is to fully integrate all BI capabilities and
house them on a single modern, homogenous platform, providing cost avoidance and simplifying the
user experience.
Data Access & Transparency: This objective is supported by converting to a simplified data access
strategy.
Uniform Look and Feel: Consolidate the current reporting toolset to provide a consistent look and
feel.

3. nSIGHT – Human Resources
Background
nSIGHT was envisioned based on several key needs identified by nVision based on experience including:
an interactive web based system with on-board reporting would satisfy NIH’s needs more effectively and a
portal based system would allow each IC autonomy while maintaining enterprise standards.
Requirements & Benefits
In defining the requirements for the nSIGHT HR project, the nVision team worked closely with SMEs from
NEI, NIAID and OHR to gather requirements and understand the pain points around HR reporting.
The benefits of the nSIGHT application include:
Complete staff picture for each IC;
Ability to export data directly into Excel or PDF format;
Ability to create planning records to project future needs;
Customized dashboards and subscription based alerts;
Expanded NED and ITAS content will allow for time reconciliation with DFAS.
