Defining stress is like defining happiness.
Everyone knows what it is but no one can agree on a definition
“Stress is the emotional and physical response you experience when you
perceive an imbalance between demands placed on you and your resources at
a time when coping is important”
Sustained work related stressors lead to Burnout

Dangers of nurse burnout
It impacts
- Nurses

Tiredness & fatigue,
Disrupted sleep patterns
Increased pulse rate and blood
pressure
Shallow, rapid respirations
loss of appetite, overeating,
Indigestion • constipation, Diarrhea •
dry mouth • excessive Perspiration,
clamminess • nausea

Increased use of alcohol or other
drugs •
Irritability and impatience,
frequent worry and anxiety •
moodiness,
Feeling sad or upset • loss of sense
