1. August 20th, 2014
Dear Sir or Madame:
This letter has been written to elaborate the on the experience Computer Designs, Inc. had with
Norman Spotts, during his internship with our company from June 2nd, 2014 through August 7th,
2014. During this time his attendance and punctuality were exemplary. He interacted
exceptionally well with personnel at all levels. He demonstrated professionalism, confidence and
inquisitiveness in his communications with me (his direct manager). Furthermore, his duties
required him to engage on a daily basis with manufacturing supervisors, machine operators and
packaging personnel. All of the feedback that I received from these employees indicated that Norm
was professional; asked pertinent, probing questions, and developed a strong working knowledge
of our terminology and processes for the short amount of time he was here.
Computer Designs, Inc. is a medium-sized manufacturer of plastic packaging. In the past, we have
not employed college interns. Norm was the first intern that we have utilized. As such, he assisted
Computer Designs management in developing the projects / responsibilities of which he would be
in charge. His primary responsibilities during his internship were data collection / analysis
projects related to machine downtime, set-up time & first piece inspection times; scrap rates and
secondary operations piece rate. He spent numerous hours collecting in-depth, detailed data
related to these functions. Afterwards, he compiled this data into Excel Spreadsheets that he
created specifically for these projects and ran statistical analysis of the data. Norm also presented
this data to the Computer Designs management team, along with recommendations for
improvements based upon his observations. His presentation and observations were clear, cogent
and well-informed.
As his direct manager during his internship, I feel that Norm performed the tasks assigned to him
extremely well. He contributed a great deal to the discussions in which we engaged concerning the
development of his projects. Norm was self-motivated, completing his assigned tasks and projects
with minimal supervision. He asked surprisingly pertinent and complex questions for one with no
previous exposure to our industry. He was dependable, performed his responsibilities at or above
expectations and was at all times professional.
In summary, Norm was an asset to Computer Designs during his brief tenure with us as an intern.
We feel that our experience with Norm will make us more likely to use a college summer intern in
the future. His performance has set the bar very high for his future successors in the position.
Sincerely,
William Vaughn
Operations Manager
