Traditional Classroom
A teacher utilizes different strategies &
available tools like notes, board, chalk, slides
etc. for effective teaching-learning
interactions between these elements
5. Normal Classroom interaction
Interactions that happens between these
three components in a normal classroom?
5
The teacher explains the content from the slides/Notes/books
Then the teacher addresses the student queries if any
And finally provides an example problem for the students to
work on.
Or some times the teacher also encourages the students to
discuss between themselves during this entire process.
6. Three Types of Interactions
Here there is a dialogue between the teacher
and student either as the explanation based on
the slides or the question answer sessions in the
class

Teacher-
Learner
Interaction
The students doing or solving the problem or
reading from book.
And the students discussing among themselves
is an example of learner-learner interaction

7. Moving from Physical Classroom to
Online learning
So, while moving from this physical classroom
to online learning, the three main
components still remain the same.
However, there is a slight difference in the
role played by the teacher.
The teacher now becomes a facilitator who
uses the various features available in the
learning platform to ensure that all these
interactions happen in an online setting.
7
8. Moving from Physical Classroom to
Online learning
So, Now the classroom is available
anywhere and everywhere subject to the
availability of media and connection.
In the form of an APP, or any MOOC or
online platform on the
mobile/tab/laptop/computer etc.
8
9. Moving from Physical Classroom to
Online learning
So Now consider the scenario
where the teacher in the
classroom decides to facilitate
an online learning experience
for the students, using any
platform that is available.
9
The facilitator would initially
interact with the content and
prepare videos, resources like
slides, practice problems, quizes
etc., for students to work out.
This is then made available as an
entire course
The students will interact with
the content by accessing the
course, watching videos and
doing problems, solving
quizzes in online setting.
The instructor-learner interaction
and the learner-learner
interaction is facilitated through
discussion forums.
10. Moving from Physical Classroom to
Online learning
Thus, three platform features emerge for
an online instructor - Videos, Problems
and Discussion Forums, to generate the
various interactions that areseen in the
physical classroom as well..

So now there is slight modification in the
physical classroom setting....

12. Pedagogic modifications
To make the entire online teaching-learning
experience more learner-centric, we have to
make few minor pedagogic modifications in
each of these features.
12
Learning
Dialogues
or LeDs
Learning-
by-Doing
Activities
or LbDs
Learning
Extension
Resources
or LxTs

or LxIs
13. Learning Dialogue
The First pedagogic feature is Learning
Dialogue that involves the use of videos of an
instructor (teacher) which will have number of
advantages over the classroom activity like:
each learner can individually play it at any time,
move to any portion,
control the pace of video,
Volume & speed,
increase screen size and
also see the transcript along with the video for better
understanding
13
14. Reflection Activity
Reflection spots can be kept in the video to
make the learner pause the video, think and
then write the answer to a reflection question.
By adding reflection spots, your students will no
longer be watching passive videos, they will be
involved in a learning dialogue with the facilitator of
the course.
Some of these reflection spots can be followed up
with detailed answer provided by the facilitator.
14
15. Reflection Activity
A reflection spot requires learner to engage
with the content by writing down the answer in
the journal.
Reflection spot is a more active mechanism as
each and every learner is required to think
about the question and not like a classroom
question where only few participate.
15
16. Learning by Doing
The Second pedagogic feature is Learning by
Doing that involves creating practice problem or
quiz immediately after the videos for the learner
to answer the questions.
It is as against our classroom teaching where a
teacher can ask question to few students only,
whereas here all the learners gets the chance to be
actively involved and answer the questions as and
when they arise.
It becomes more ACTIVE LEARNING.
16
17. Learning Extension Resources
The Third pedagogic feature is Learning
Extension Resources that involves learning
process supported by some additional resources
like links to various web pages, videos, or
documents that are already available, research
papers uploading that will assist the learners
with some extra supplemental resource to
assimilate and understand the concept.
17
18. Learning Extension Resources
This process can also be made active by adding
the Assimilation Quizzes to recollect the key
concepts.
It can also be graded to quantify and evaluate
the active participation from the learner.
18
19. Learning Experience Interaction
The Fourth pedagogic feature is Learning Experience
Interaction that involves forming a structured discussion
from the day to day experiences of the facilitator on
the core theme followed by a graded reflection quiz.
The quiz will be based on the discussions within the
forum and will ensure that learners go through most of
these discussions before trying to answer the quiz.
A focussed discussion creates more engagements and
newer and innovative ideas to be implemented to make
it more interactive.
19
20. So an ICT enabled teaching Learning
process will surely be active with more
participation from the learners since it
involves all the active learners
individually in a more focussed
manner.
20
21. Advantages of Online setting
It allows teachers to organize and optimize their
entire class process by creating:
an online class and course that he/she teaches,
add assignments/Lectures/Quizes,
add resources for students (Notes/PPTs…),
use both inside & outside of the classroom (24x7),
grade the assignments (for evaluation)…
deliver quick, high-quality feedback,…and
Importantly communicate with students…in a
number of ways.….
