3. Who we are
Fab lab Ioannina is an active node of the Digital Fabrication Laboratories,
network Fab Labs, that are a platform for cooperation between people and or-
ganizations from different countries around the world.
Our Lab was founded in 2015 by architects Evangelos and Iason Pantazis
and aims to promote inventiveness and innovation both localy as well as globaly.
Fab lab Ioannina is a platform for the development of Digital Fabrication
Technologies, which sets to explore how Digital Fabrication, Information and
Communication Technologies applied in different disciplines, can create more
efficient economic, social, productive and education models in the different
local contexts of the region of Greece as well as outside Greece.
This platform also forms an Open Lab that is accessible to local people, pro-
fessionals,researchers, students, children and anybody interested in learning
and testing the uses and applications of digital fabrication technologies.

5. Form of Good
‘’Form of Good’’ laptop case is based on origami folding context. The case is constituted by a single
piece of 3mm felt and a small piece of leather on the top of it. Both pieces are cut and etched using
a laser cutter machine.
Billfold
Billfold wallet is a porte monnaie inspired from origami tradition and its form is based on a sim-
ple folding technique (pleat), which collapses a cube into a folded plane.The material is cut and
etched by a laser cutter machine and is hand sewn in Greece.

6. Tesseract lamp
Tesseract is an ongoing design research project on developing interactive objects that can be con-
trolled by its users both in terms of design and functionality. It is is made up of bespoke 3d printed
joints and straight wooden rods.
Confessional Wall
This project draws its inspiration from the activity of confession, and attempts to produce a tectonic
translation of this experience in a contemporary context. Following this paradigm our screen wall
consists of 80 laser cut wooden panels, which stand by interlocking sequentially.

7. Topotheque Design Studio organised a Digi/Cast workshop under the auspices of the Biennale
of the Western Balkans at the Fab Lab Ioannina. The workshop aimed to introduce the partic-
ipants to digital fabrication techniques of producing casting molds through parametric design,
lasercutting, 3d printing and CNC Milling. The participants created molds and casted into them
a variety of materials such as gypsum, resin, porcelain and cement.

The 3D Printing Ceramics Workshop aims to familiarize participants with 3D printing and ex-
pand the technique for ceramics by converting and using a 3D plastic printer for ceramic print-
ing. The workshop was held at FAB LAB Ioannina within the framework of the Biennale Of West-

IOATech is a community of people from Ioannina, who unite their interest in technology and
programming. This seminar aims to familiarize the participants with both the understanding of
network technology and the creation of the first IoT network of our city.

Fab Lab Ioannina participated at the European Maker week 2018 by organizing of a Design night
event for the maker community of western Greece. The participants were able to assemple many ob-
jects which we made using our laser cutter and 3d printing machine.

9. Maker Faire Barcelona
Our lab was selected to participate at Barcelona Maker Faire the last year. Maker Faire BCN 2018
brought together more than 200 local and international experts and Makers from all over the world.
Barcelona Maker Faire was a partnership between Sónar+D, SokoTech, Fab Lab Barcelona & IN(3D)
USTRY with the support of the Barcelona City Hall.
Iason Pantazis from Fab Lab Ioannina presented his ongoing research concerning the Commons
in Architecture and Design at the “Un-Co-nference” series of lectures and workshops, organised
by the curatorial team of P2P Lab. His lecture “You can make (almost) anything” focused on the
new media of production and the rise of the 4th industrial revolution through the context of Digital
Fabrication Laboratories.

12. ABOUT ME:
IASON PANTAZIS MSc Architect
Iason Pantazis is a professor of Architecture at the University of Ioannina. He graduated with honors
from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and received his Master of Science in Advanced Architec-
tural Design from Columbia University as a Fulbright Scholar. He is the co-founder of Fab Lab Ioannina
and currently lives and works in Ioannina, Greece. His personal and collaborative work ranges from Ar-
chitecture and Design to Applied Arts and it has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Benaki Mu-
seum in Athens, the AIA New York Center for Architecture and the State Museum of Modern Art in Thessa-
loniki.
