 Infrastructure
 Amenities and facilities
Limitations-
1. Industrial Development in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, India
Author- Judith A. Davey, B.A., PH.D.
(formerly Research Assistant, Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge)
Revised MS. received 27 May 1969
Abstract-
 Controversy surrounds locational policy for industry- the
centralization-decentralization issue. This problem, and the
economic, social and political factors which affect locational
decisions, have been illustrated by an examination of industrial
growth in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, two states in Central
India.
STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA
Literature review-
 Industrialization is also necessary to support agricultural
development, especially in the drive for self-sufficiency in
food.
 Industry not only provides many of the inputs for modem
farming, such as fertilizers and improved implements, but
also supplies a market for agricultural products, thus
stimulating further growth.
 There was a strong movement among some politicians,
especially in the Congress Party, to follow Gandhian thought
in economic policies, and this trend can be seen in the
encouragement of cottage industries in the Indian Plans.
STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA
Literature review-
 Over-strict control of industrial location discourages
entrepreneurs.
 The most beneficial procedure is the creation of 'counter-
magnets' to divert migrant streams and to promote regional
development.
 Opportunities shall be provided for employment on a
decentralized basis.
 ‘Growth-points' shall be developed and these centers should
absorb the greater part of the population moving into urban
areas in the next decade.

agricultural products and can provide a market.
 Counter magnet helps to balance the development
over the region.

2. Urban Structure and Industrialization
Author(s): Thomas O. Wilkinson
Published by: American Sociological Association
Abstract-
 Previous studies have established the existence of a high positive
association between the extent of urbanization and industrial
development.
 It is hypothesized that metropolitanization is strongly influenced
by the structure of the industrialization process, and not only by
industrialization as such.
STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA
Literature review-
 As a test of the hypothesis, Japanese industrial organization
and employment patterns are analyzed in terms of their
influences upon metropolitan structure.
 The integration of traditional systems of household-based
handicraft employment with large-scale industrial activities has
retarded population developments outside city boundaries.
 Japan ranks relatively low among the industrial nations in
commitment to non-agricultural employment and size of urban
population, but relatively high in the metro-politanization of its
urban structure.
 It means hypothesis failed.

3. Industrial development and growth in Nigeria
WIDER Working Paper 2014
L. N. Chete, J. O. Adeoti, F. M. Adeyinka, and O. Ogundele
Abstract-
 The industrial sector in Nigeria (comprising manufacturing,
mining, and utilities) accounts for a tiny proportion of economic
activity (6 per cent) while the manufacturing sector contribute
only 4 per cent to GDP in 2011.
 Electricity outages, transport bottlenecks, crime and corruption
are the key factors constituting impediments to firm growth.
STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA
Literature review-
 Nigerian manufacturing firms suffer acute shortages of
infrastructure such as good roads, portable water and, in
particular, power supply.
 Consequently, most firms rely on self-supply of electricity by
using generators, which escalates their costs of production and
erodes their competitiveness relative to foreign firms.

5. Industrialization and the Growth of Cities in
Nineteenth Century America
Author(s): Peter G. Goheen
Published by: Mid-America American Studies Association, 1973
Abstract-
 The enlargement of the market and the growth of industries are
consequences of the operation of the social system.
 In the words of one economic historian of Britain, a "mobile
population . . . flowed naturally to the 'pressure points' of the
economy.
 The growth and redistribution of population coincided with the
expansion of urban economic activity.
STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA
Literature review-
 Nineteenth-century urban and industrial growth can be thought
of as a statistical correlation and a social and economic process.
 Industrialization is a concept which summarizes a basic change
which overtook the city's economic character and revolutionized
the urban social and spatial structure.
 Any explanation of the pattern of location of industrial cities
must account for relative transport advantage.
 Like- wise, any consideration of the process by which economic
activities industrialize and become urban must recognize the
importance of technological innovation, entrepreneurship and
the institutional setting which confer advantage unequally across
the region.

1. MIDC should be expanded in sector
no. VII as no development is
happening there.
2. A new TP scheme should be
proposed on West side of sector VII
to move the flow of development
towards South of the City.
3. Also there is no connectivity
through Sector VI. So road
connectivity should be proposed.
4. Industrial housing should be
provided before establishment of
new large industrial estate.
Recommendations-
New TP
scheme
Expansion of MIDC

  • 1. Study of Industrial Development and Growth of the City By Niketa M. Patil MIS No. 121318022 Date- 17/06/2015 Under guidance of Prof. P.G. Narkhede 1
  • 2. To study the industrial development and growth of the city 1. To study the past and present scenario of the city 2. To study morphology of the City growth and to analyse how it is affected by industrial development 3. To study the pattern of industrial development 4. To study the effects of industrial development over different parameters of the city 5. To give recommendations for the future industrial development of the City. 2 STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Aim- Objectives-
  • 3. This study will give emphasis on identifying and analyzing the influence of industrial development on the growth of the City. Parameters which will be considered in the study-  Physical planning  Demography  Socio- economic 3 Scope- STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA The following factors will not be considered in the study  Socio-cultural  Infrastructure  Amenities and facilities Limitations-
  • 4. 1. Industrial Development in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, India Author- Judith A. Davey, B.A., PH.D. (formerly Research Assistant, Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge) Revised MS. received 27 May 1969 Abstract-  Controversy surrounds locational policy for industry- the centralization-decentralization issue. This problem, and the economic, social and political factors which affect locational decisions, have been illustrated by an examination of industrial growth in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, two states in Central India. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 5.  Industrialization is also necessary to support agricultural development, especially in the drive for self-sufficiency in food.  Industry not only provides many of the inputs for modem farming, such as fertilizers and improved implements, but also supplies a market for agricultural products, thus stimulating further growth.  There was a strong movement among some politicians, especially in the Congress Party, to follow Gandhian thought in economic policies, and this trend can be seen in the encouragement of cottage industries in the Indian Plans. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 6.  Over-strict control of industrial location discourages entrepreneurs.  The most beneficial procedure is the creation of 'counter- magnets' to divert migrant streams and to promote regional development.  Opportunities shall be provided for employment on a decentralized basis.  ‘Growth-points' shall be developed and these centers should absorb the greater part of the population moving into urban areas in the next decade. • 7.  Agro based industries can increase the demand of agricultural products and can provide a market.  Counter magnet helps to balance the development over the region. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Relevance to topic
  • 8. 2. Urban Structure and Industrialization Author(s): Thomas O. Wilkinson Published by: American Sociological Association Abstract-  Previous studies have established the existence of a high positive association between the extent of urbanization and industrial development.  It is hypothesized that metropolitanization is strongly influenced by the structure of the industrialization process, and not only by industrialization as such. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 9.  As a test of the hypothesis, Japanese industrial organization and employment patterns are analyzed in terms of their influences upon metropolitan structure.  The integration of traditional systems of household-based handicraft employment with large-scale industrial activities has retarded population developments outside city boundaries.  Japan ranks relatively low among the industrial nations in commitment to non-agricultural employment and size of urban population, but relatively high in the metro-politanization of its urban structure.  It means hypothesis failed. • 11. 3. Industrial development and growth in Nigeria WIDER Working Paper 2014 L. N. Chete, J. O. Adeoti, F. M. Adeyinka, and O. Ogundele Abstract-  The industrial sector in Nigeria (comprising manufacturing, mining, and utilities) accounts for a tiny proportion of economic activity (6 per cent) while the manufacturing sector contribute only 4 per cent to GDP in 2011.  Electricity outages, transport bottlenecks, crime and corruption are the key factors constituting impediments to firm growth. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 12.  Nigerian manufacturing firms suffer acute shortages of infrastructure such as good roads, portable water and, in particular, power supply.  Consequently, most firms rely on self-supply of electricity by using generators, which escalates their costs of production and erodes their competitiveness relative to foreign firms. Source- http://www.wider.unu.edu/publications/en_GB/index-revised-2010/ Accessed- 07/10/2014, 10.00 STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-

Future Growth Trend & Potential Residential Area Identification of a City: A Case Study of Chittagong Author- Panini Amin Chowdhury Department of Urban & Regional Planning, Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology, Chittagong, Bangladesh accepted 14 August 2014 Abstract-  According to the analysis it is found that the city mainly expands towards the Dhaka region. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 15.  The most populated growth center of Chittagong is Hathazari and the least is Rangunia.  The reason of Hathazari for being so populated is Chittagong University and its adjacent economic activities. • 17. 5. Industrialization and the Growth of Cities in Nineteenth Century America Author(s): Peter G. Goheen Published by: Mid-America American Studies Association, 1973 Abstract-  The enlargement of the market and the growth of industries are consequences of the operation of the social system.  In the words of one economic historian of Britain, a "mobile population . . . flowed naturally to the 'pressure points' of the economy.  The growth and redistribution of population coincided with the expansion of urban economic activity. STUDY OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CITY- JALGAON, MAHARASHTRA Literature review-
  • 18.  Nineteenth-century urban and industrial growth can be thought of as a statistical correlation and a social and economic process.  Industrialization is a concept which summarizes a basic change which overtook the city's economic character and revolutionized the urban social and spatial structure.  Any explanation of the pattern of location of industrial cities must account for relative transport advantage.  Like- wise, any consideration of the process by which economic activities industrialize and become urban must recognize the importance of technological innovation, entrepreneurship and the institutional setting which confer advantage unequally across the region.
