As we approach the half
way mark of the fiscal year,
I would like to sayhow
excited I am to Chair the
NCEDB this year. It’s the
impressive work of the
NCEDB that allows this
county to grow and
accomplish the success we
have so far. For the past
five months, our
committees have “hit the
ground running” to
accomplish the goals,
objectives and strategies
we set forth in Nassau
Tomorrow. You will find an
update on many of these
projects in this newsletter.
You can also see their
progress at the strategy’s
website,
www.nassautomorrow.com.
What is not mentioned is
the immense support of the
community that we have
experienced. This is such
an important aspect of our
work, and we are grateful
for the organizations and
individuals that have
supported the work we do,
both financially, through in-
kind services and referrals.
For all you do, we thank
you.
As we look towards the
coming months, our staff
continues working to
promote the county through
various marketing efforts to
new prospective
businesses, working with
local governmental
agencies to encourage a
business friendly
atmosphere and supporting
existing businesses in their
pursuit of expansion
projects. We remain a key
resource for businesses.

For all of our team at the

look forward to continuing
to serve our community in

ALM Technologies recognized by Governor Scott
Among the honorees for the 2012 Governor’s Innovators in Business Awards, local manufacturer ALM
Technologies Inc. received recognition for being a top job producer in Florida. Michael J. Piscatella,
president of ALM Technologies in Yulee, was honored at a reception on Monday night at the Governor’s
Mansion with the Governor’s Newcomer Award for a Mid-Market County of up to 150,000 in
population.
Governor Scott said, “I am proud to announce another group of award winners. My number one mission
is to grow jobs for Florida families, and the successes these companies have experienced represent the
job opportunities being created in Florida.”
The awards recognize outstanding contributions toward improving and diversifying Florida's economy
plus distinctive community investment efforts, particularly relating to industries targeted for economic
development and high wage job growth.
“My experience bringing ALM Technologies to Nassau County was second-to-none; and I have truly
enjoyed being a part of this community,” said Piscatella. “I was honored to accept the award from the
Governor on behalf of our commitment to bringing jobs to Florida. We are especially proud of our staff
and look forward to continuing to grow here in Florida.”
ALM Technologies, a high precision aerospace manufacturing company, committed to creating 30 new
jobs in Nassau County at the beginning of 2012. After renovations to the building through the summer,
the company opened its doors in early November with new employees 18, including skilled machinists,
engineers and support personnel.

NCEDB launches new real estate database
Yulee, Florida, - May 7, 2013 – Through the support of its economic development
partners, Florida Power & Light Company and GIS Planning, the Nassau County
Economic Development Board is pleased to announce the launch of http://
expandinnassau.com/nassau-county/real-estate/. With this new database, business
prospects and site selectors will have access to a powerful array of site-specific
information at the click of a mouse.
Using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, the website provides immediate
access to specific demographic information that previously required weeks of research to
accumulate. Real estate listings and images, as well as demographic and industry
breakdowns are conveniently accessible and available for all parts of Nassau County.
Visitors to the site can view available properties, specifications for those properties, and
demographics for the surrounding area in one simple portfolio of information. Users of
the site will also be able to identify other businesses of interest within the search
parameters of the inquiry. Properties listed on the site will not include all commercial
properties available in Nassau County but will feature a majority of the most eligible
office and industrial properties or vacant land suitable for new and/or expanding
businesses.
“This new tool goes far beyond a simple database of available sites and buildings”, said
Steve Rieck, NCEDB’s executive director. “The website also provides dynamic mapping
capabilities including the ability to view geographic ‘layers’ of information like zip
codes, schools, railroads, hospitals and golf courses.”
The GIS-powered website is built on Google Maps technology, and offers state-of-the-art
site selection mapping capabilities. The new website is also integrated with GIS

COA Serves Everyone, Including Students and Local Workforce with $1 Nassau Transit Fares
The economy has hit Nassau County hard and as gas prices continue to remain high, Nassau County residents
are finding it more difficult to afford to commute to work or school. The idea of a public transportation service
in the County has become a reality. With special grants from the Florida Department of Transportation and
assistance from the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged, the Council on Aging began operating
Nassau Transit, which offers transportation services to the public throughout the county and to downtown
Jacksonville. For students and employees, this has made the difference in being able to take classes toward their
degree or accepting a position slightly further away from home.
Greg Frick, Transportation Manager at the Council on Aging of Nassau, said that since the service started
several Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students have been able to attend college courses for the first time
using Nassau Transit to commute to campus and he hopes for more to come.
“The growth of the service will depend on the grants awarded on a yearly basis, but it was intended to help
people get to where they need to go. With an increase in funding, we could offer more frequency, and extended
hours to our riders,” said Frick. “This is something Nassau County has not had before and is a benefit to
everyone—especially students, employees and employers.”
While the cost-efficient service is being offered throughout Nassau County, with stops in Hilliard, Callahan,
Yulee, Fernandina Beach and downtown Jacksonville, riders can expect to commute where needed in a
reasonable amount of time. “Riders do need to be mindful of the set schedule,” said Tom Moss, COA
Executive Director, “But can enjoy the low fare of $1 each way, including to and from Jacksonville.” For
employees who work throughout the Jacksonville area, the designated stops at River City Shopping Area and
Florida State College Downtown are both adjacent to JTA bus stops, where they can connect for further travel.
For detailed information on the route and schedule, visit http://nassautransit.com/.
“The Nassau Transit transportation service will provide a feasible and cost-efficient way for employees to
commute,” said Steve Rieck, Executive Director for Nassau County Economic Development Board.
“Without the worry of travel, employees are more productive and efficient. The transportation service will also
provide a larger workforce pool for future employers looking to relocate to the area.”
The Nassau Transit service works in conjunction with the transportation service traditionally provided by the
COA for the Transportation Disadvantaged (those who cannot obtain their own transportation due to such things
