Our purpose, our promise
The Future Leadership team shows up for work each day to intentionally
create a world of difference. It’s more than a purpose, it’s a promise.
But what does difference mean? We are all learning to lead a different world.
69% of people say they trust business leaders more than governments or other
institutions to lead the future (Edelman, 2022). Yet 79% of business leaders say
they don’t know how to prepare for future capabilities (EY, 2022).
That’s why we exist. Future Leadership has arisen from 20 years of executive
search, placing high calibre leaders at decision-making tables. Today clients
rely on us not just to place great leaders, but to empower them once there.
.
Future Leadership is a capability ecosystem, bringing together three
businesses to help boards and executives lead the future. Our three
businesses include: Fisher Leadership, Board and Executive Search; CLA,
leadership learning and development; and Gig Executive, connecting on-

CANDIDATE
There was a transparency and authenticity to working with
Fisher Leadership and Scotch College over the weeks of
the recruitment process for the Principal role. As
a candidate you do accept that there will be pressure
points, there will be uncertainty and you will only have
insight into one side of conversations - that is the nature
of recruitment. You do hope that, despite those things,
you are given the opportunity to show yourself to decision
makers on a council or panel as you really are so they
can make an informed choice, and the process does not
obscure that. I appreciated Liz Jones' openness, candour
and support at each stage, so that I could spend
my energies in my preparation rather than wondering what
was really required of me. In this respect, as a candidate I
felt supported by Fisher through a rigorous and
involved process that took me out of my comfort zone
at times and had confidence by the end that the extent of
their research and due diligence into me would allow
Scotch's panel to make a quality decision, irrespective of
how it would fall.

THE BRIEF
After a successful 8-year tenure Dr John Newton
advised the Board of Scotch College Adelaide of
his intention to depart the school at the end of
2022. With the school at its largest in terms of
enrolments in its history and in an excellent
financial position, the College sought a Principal &
CEO to continue to delivery and evolve the
Strategic Plan, whilst acknowledging and
safeguarding the College’s history and
culture. The College Board sought a
contemporary educational leader to shape the
future of education delivery, embrace a
diverse range of learning environments and
genuinely collaborate with and contribute to this
thriving community. The appointee would
be characterised by an ability to nurture, challenge
and inspire students and staff. Demonstrating a
record of leadership in the education sector, the
appointee required an understanding of and
support for domestic and international boarding.
School Case study
SOLUTION BUILDING
Fisher Leadership was appointed to lead the search
after submission of a detailed proposal and
subsequent presentation to the Board. From the
beginning Liz Jones led a high touch
process incorporating detailed briefings at the
College, minimum weekly update conversations with
the Board Chair and a dedicated administration lead
who provided another point of contact throughout
the process. Engagement with known referral
partners and networks along with additional sector
research was supported by national print advertising
to identify a strong field of candidates. Fisher
Leadership supported two rounds of panel interviews
held on site at Scotch College. The second round
incorporated a range of meetings with key
stakeholder groups including the Senior Leadership
Team, students and community
representatives. Following an interview
and presentation to the Board,
prospective candidates and their partners joined the
Board for dinner.

OUTCOMES
The preferred CEO candidate David Lloyd
undertook the Hogan Inventory through CLA as
part of the selection process. The leadership
assessment tool has now been chosen as The
National Heart Foundation’s preferred selection,
onboarding and engagement tool as the new
executive team of 4 appointments comes together.
The National Heart Foundation was seeking
someone capable of running the finance function
and working collaboratively with the Executive
Team to develop a longer-term financial strategy to
grow revenue and build financial sustainability to
support the organisation's program of work.
Samantha Winter, a senior executive with a strong
pedigree in strategic and commercial management
across a range of industries and organisations with
over 25+ years of experience, was the successful
candidate. Samantha commenced in the interim
role for a period of 3 months and received very
positive feedback. After finishing her first
engagement Samantha was re- engaged with the
National Heart Foundation for an assignment as

THE BRIEF
Country Fire Authority (CFA) were looking
to rebuild their team following the
passing of the Fire Services (Reform) Bill
resulting in the organisation becoming a
fully voluntary workforce. As internal
changes were still taking place between
CFA and Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB),
the CEO wanted immediate
stabilisation. The focus being on health
and safety (during COVID-19) and
employee relations through the P&C
function, while the transformation
agenda required a diagnostic and
strategy roadmap.
Case Study SOLUTION BUILDING
It was evident that although specific expertise was
required for both roles, there needed to be an alignment
in moving the organisation towards positive
change. The successful candidate placed as Interim
Executive Director - People, Culture and Safety had
worked across a breadth of sectors including FMCG and
higher education. They had transformed environments
that were resistant to change, implementing safety
culture change programs as well as building continuous
Improvement teams to ensure safety and culture
initiatives weren't in isolation. Their commitment to
operational and cultural improvement and
demonstrated success in transformation programmes
made them an ideal candidate for the role.
The appointed Interim Executive Director –
Transformation, brought over 20+ years of
experience leading business transformation programs.
Their advocacy for change and influential style led them
to lead the next stage of change for the organisation.
Having led the global transformation across an
organisation that was effectively operating in silos
previously, their strengths lay in the appreciation
of operational models and the need to work
collaboratively. Skilled in both strategy and delivery they
were a strong choice to set CFA up for success.
THE OUTCOME
The two Gig Executive leaders were able to
successfully deliver outcomes in their roles and both
assignments were extended. Their roles were pivotal in
creating stabilisation and laying the foundations for
change especially in the time where the organisation
was going through a transition phase with a new CEO
taking over.

METHODOLOGY
We worked with our client to conduct research into
the leadership capabilities. Over 500 leaders globally
completed an online survey measuring leadership
challenges. Skills rated as important alongside skills
requiring development. Leveraging these research
insights we co-designed a framework; a global
definition of leadership capability and potential.
Design of the Framework involved:
• Creation of a Global Insights Framework
• Mapping assessment tools to capabilities
• Creation of a suite of learning modules
• Recruitment, Overview of Assessment Fact Sheets,
and Working with Psychometrics modules rolled
out across the global HR community through live
facilitation, online learning and self-paced modules
• Creation of a customised 360 tool
• Creation of a Group Data Framework outlining the
processes, systems and governance for data use
• Aspire Leadership Development Program
comprising 360, technical competence measures,
line manager conversations, program sponsorship
and peer coaching circles.
THE OUTCOME
CLA has played a key role in executing

million members, 2700 employees and
operates brands across health, travel, pet
and life insurance.

SOLUTION BUILDING
Our client runs a Leadership
Development Program for 24 high potential
leaders each year.. However, prior to
commencing their learning journey, they
wanted each participant to complete a
comprehensive assessment process,
the insights from which would inform
development goals to focus on in the
program.
METHODOLOGY
CLA partnered with our client to design an assessment
methodology which would provide participants with
‘stretch’ leadership experiences and simulations akin to a
Day-in-the-Life of a Senior Manager, along with real-time
feedback opportunities. The data points included in this
methodology were:
• Psychometric assessment of personality (completed
online)
• Simulations completed in person over one day (business
case analysis, direct report coaching, strategic
presentation)
• Learning / self-reflection session
• Active feedback provided throughout the experience by
assessors and peers
• Individual feedback sessions and practical development
tips to support participation in the Managing with
Purpose program.
The program was delivered over one day, and data points
were mapped to the client’s Leadership
Capability Framework which included capabilities such as
Future Orientation, Adaptable, Business Acumen and
Enterprise Thinking. A total of 24 participants participated in
the program in 2018 and then again in 2019.

THE OUTCOME
The client was extremely happy with the methodology
and participants were energised and excited to
commence their development journey. Following the
program, CLA were asked to create a Development
Guide which included experiential development
activities and resources for leaders to complete.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client sought CLA’s support with the creation
of their Leadership Capability Framework,
designed to build a common language regarding
leadership and to outline: "what makes a leader?"
Following this work, CLA consulted on
the implementation of the framework to ensure
the leadership capabilities were lived day-to-day
and not simply words on a page. We learned that
small group, online learning sessions had been
particularly successful, so we recommended
a program comprising Coaching Circles as a way
of embedding the leadership capabilities and
making them part of every day dialogue.
Coaching
Circles
Case Study
THE METHODOLOGY
The Coaching Circles were a series of small
group sessions that provided the opportunity
for leaders to connect, learn and develop
together. The purpose was to:
• Build a peer network of leaders
• Provide an opportunity for leaders to share
and discuss their experiences
• Explore the role of the leader
• Support ongoing coaching and
development for leaders on their journey.
There were 5 participants per Circle and
Circles were designed to foster peer
connections and collaboration across the
organisation. The nominations process
involved communications launched and
managers nominating participants they
thought would be suitable. The success of
the Circles meant that the program gained
momentum and later cohorts were
subscribed fairly quickly.
We also designed an evaluation
methodology which included the collection
of data from participants and their managers.
THE OUTCOME
Participants reported the following increases
from re-measure of baseline to post-program:
• Uplift in self-awareness 31%
• Uplift in motivation to develop 20%
• Uplift in confidence 22%
• Uplift in role clarity 31%”.

degree measure of leadership style and
impact
• CLA conducting 1-1 coaching / feedback
sessions with each executive to debrief their
report
• CLA then designed and facilitated a 2-day
offsite workshop in NSW covering:
• Group report themes from the LSI tool
• Implications of the LSI report for team
functioning and dynamics
• Facilitation of a ‘world cafe’ activity to
enable the Executive to ‘know, do
and believe’ as a group
• Multiple tools and approaches to
support ongoing development such as
High Performing Teams models, GAPs
for Teams, models of feedback
• Opportunity for networking and team-
