2. Skype Interview
• Your strategic moment to creating an
impactful impression.
• Remote interviews require more preparation
than regular ones.
• 90% of the cues you give are non-verbal.
3. Getting Prepared

• Prepare your surroundings.
• Get rid of distractions.
• Make sure the lighting is proper.
• Ensure a good internet connection.
• Keep a notepad and a pen handy.

• Ensure a professional profile picture.
• If a presentation is included, be thorough.
• Check your framing.
• Look into the camera and not on your screen.
• Toggle the interviewer’s Skype window just below
your webcam to maintain ‘eye-contact.’
5. Creating Impressions
• Keep a clean desk.
• Stay pleasant. As if the interviewer is with you
in the same room.
• Practice active listening. Use interjecting
listening sounds.
• Check how you sound by recording and then
playing yourself back.
• Log onto Skype 10 mins before the interview.
6. Dress To Impress
• Dress to impress, not to distract.
• Dress yourself completely! As if you were going
for an in person interview.
• Avoid wearing stripes or patterns that might
come across as strobe lights
to the interviewer.
• Make sure your hair is
neatly combed and styled.
• Use appropriate make-up
and accessories.
7. Body Language
• Sit up composed and confident.
• Smile. Smile. Smile.
• Be aware of your facial expressions.
• Your camera should show your
head and shoulders.
• Any fidgeting or even the shaking
of your legs should be avoided.
• Avoid over gesturing.
• Have a good posture, relax and
avoid stiffness.
8. Follow Up
• A thank-you mail.
• Don’t follow up on Skype chat!
• If someone has just interviewed you, don’t
send them a fb friend request.
