Reading And Reflection Essay
For as long as I can remember on the first day of class no matter what class it seems that the teacher would always look upon the class and ask what
our personal definition of reading and writing or why we were in the class and people always seem to give the same hesitant answer every year. I
thought I knew why I in the class, I assumed it was like high school english as long as I stuck to the formula that was engraved in our minds that I
would have no trouble making it though the course. However, after the first day of class i knew that this class probably wouldn't be that way. After
being turned off to reading and writing from a young age, my definition of reading and writing were hindered from these experiences. Going from
classrooms...show more content...
Finding out later that I have a learning disability hindered all attempts I would make at reading for fun writing because I wasn't good at it or didn't
understand grammar. So my definitions of reading and writing were hindered by the fact that I only put in the bare minimum not giving it my all to
learn how to .
My first attempt at English 1101 I came with the mindset like it was highschool that i could breeze though the course with the bare minimum talk about
the bigger picture summarize write a 5 paragraph essay, not realizing college english wouldn't difficult. After my mindset was changed I thought if I
just changed teachers that i would pass. Walking into my second attempt for english 1101 and finding out that it wasn't going to be any easier i knew
at that point i had to put in the immense amount of time it would take to read and write papers i dreaded but as i opened up to the realization that i
would have to put in the time and open up to a new way of doing things .
In my second attempt at English class I realized after the first couple classes that writing was no longer some magical formula you could follow and
if you did you would pass. "For some it will come as a surprise to learn that reading and writing have no transformative powers."

Reflective Essay Reading
Looking back now, I think reading was the most important part in my formative years. Growing up was an extremely boring process, so having a
book nearby felt essential. My parents didn't read to me much, but they always encouraged me to read for myself and to find what I liked. The times
they did read to me they read usual fantasy children books, like Where the Wild Things Are or Cat in the Hat. As I got older, I started to read
whatever I could get my hands on. Non–fiction always seemed to hold my attention, more so than fiction, so when the school book fair rolled around
I'd always ask my parents for those DK Eyewitness books. When I'd read the same book or encyclopedia for the hundredth time I'd borrow from
the school library or classroom, but I had a bad habit of never returning them. To this day I probably still have a book in storage from my
elementary years. The most memorable book to me growing was always Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage. Since then, I've tried to
branch out more into fiction to try and find the qualities of that story and what made it special in other works of literature. When I heard about the
works of George Orwell, I decided to try an audiobook for the first time with my choice title being 1984. It wasn't what I expected or maybe I didn't
give careful thoughts to my expectations. I think if people are not used to having stories read to them, then the experience is rather quite jarring and
would be a turn off. As it was, I nearly didn't

My Experience Of Reading
While I was in middle school in sixth grade I actually didn't know how to read books or any story my teachers would give me. As I was reading
through the passages they would give me, I noticed that while I read a story it wouldn't stick to my head. I then told myself that it is going to be
difficult to read passages since nothing would click in my head. There were times where the teacher would have the students and I take mini
quizzes and I would hardly understand on what the reader was talking about. I would fail the quizzes due to the reason that I never gained much
knowledge in reading. Articles and stories would always be tough for me to read since I didn't have many experience in reading. Therefore, half of
sixth grade my teacher whom was named Ms. Soto which was an English teacher had really made reading easier for me as the semester went by. I
had told her I was having difficulties in reading and she gladly helped me out. Every time I needed help with a problem from the story she was
gladly there to help me. For example, the many things she would help me out with was having to stay after school for about an hour reading poems,
articles and short passages from books she would give me. She also had me read magazine pages every three times a week to better my
understanding of what I'm reading. I then was told that it would be a good opportunity to come in on Saturdays for reading to better my knowledge in
what I'm reading. With all the help from my sixth–grade teacher

My Reading Habits
'T–h–e S–u–n, come on Celeste you can say it!' my third grade kinder garden teacher begged for the last time before I started crying again and they
had to call my mother. That was when I realized reading just wasn't for me. I was five years old. My reading habits have been changing a lot
throughout my entire life. I remember that I learned how to read when I was four. My father and I used to read bedtime stories before going to
sleep. I don't know why I pretended not to know how to read when I was little; I guess I was just afraid to do it with someone who wasn't my father.
On my first day of Elementary School, the teachers asked if anyone knew how to read, my father stood up and mentioned my name. Surprisingly I
was the only child who could read an easy full simple sentence. Since that day, my teachers made me read every morning a short story for my class.
One of the first books I read completely and all by myself was 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss. I was so proud of it that I decided to read it for my
whole family during Christmas. Five times. My mother took my excitement as a hint of what I wanted for Christmas and the next morning all of the
Dr. Seuss books laid down on my tree. I read them all throughout third grade. Sixth grade was when things started getting though, for me, I think I was
so into reading when I was little that I started hating it. I stopped reading when I was 10. My family didn't notice, therefore they didn't say anything.
Middle School was no different, we had a reading class and the only books I read during middle school were to pass my class, nothing else. Do not get
me wrong, I enjoyed reading, it was just the fact they forced me to do it so much that made me dislike it. In my junior year, I went to boarding
school in England. For my literature class, we had to read a book each month and write a review about it. I chose to read all of the Harry Potter series
for my first seven months. In the exact moment, I started reading the first book, I fell in love with reading all over again. J.K. Rowling has a way of
writing that wraps you up from the very first sentence. I could not put the books down. After Rowling's impact on me, I started reading the basic teen
novels 'The Fault

How Reading Changed My Life
Reading has never been too difficult for me. As a child I was constantly reading something. I loved to read, but as I grew my passion for reading
slowly began to die. My interest in life and my ideas changed the way I do things, and it unfortunately has changed the way I feel about reading.
I began to have a strong interest in reading at a very young age. It began to grow in the first grade. At my elementary school we had trips to the
library, where we would choose a book to read. I always found myself reading the Junie B. Jones books, those were my favorite books to read as
child. Just like any first grader I struggled with certain words that I could not pronounce, but I continued to read because I enjoyed it. Although I
struggled, reading...show more content...
The time I usually spent reading when I was younger was now being spent doing homework and sports. At the time was taking pre–AP classes and
playing soccer. All my pre–AP teachers drowned me in class work and homework, the time left after completing my school work was filled with
soccer. I usually spent two to four hours practicing or playing soccer. Along with no time to read, I began to think reading was nerdy and useless.
Although, I had spent less time reading I had not completely stopped reading. In the eighth grade I started to read The Hunger Games book series.
This series was what almost every person my age was reading. The books were long but were worth reading, they were fascinating. Reading The
Hunger Games series led me to reading other books as well. The books I often read were either already a movie or were going to be made into a movie.
That was the main motive for me reading these books, I liked to see the difference between how I pictured the book and how they are presented on
screen.
At the moment I don't really like reading at all. I face the same issues I faced in the seventh grade. I simply have no time to read books, I still
continue to have an overload of schoolwork with the exception that do not play soccer anymore. With all he schoolwork I see reason in

Reading Literacy Essay
Reading is a basic skill that students develop and improve throughout their whole life. There will always be room to improve a person's reading skills;
whether they be nine or ninety, one's brain will always be building and making new connections and like Jonathan Seagull, one should strive to
improve. There was one assignment in particular that I felt was the most fitting for what the Reading Literacy chart asks for. In this activity students
were given a prompt and 1 hour to complete an essay arguing a point. They were also given articles which the students could read, research, and take
whatever information they feel would be best fitting for proving their argument. As well as having to read articles they were also asked to connect their

What difference has Advanced English Reading course made to my learning ––A Summary Report of Advanced English Reading
After the end of Advanced English Reading course I have to take the question into consideration that what I have gained? Reading skills? High grades
in final examination? Or a certificate of CET–6? All above are not I have gained or not enough, and not worth to discussing them. What I considered
them worth to discussing even not gained enough are writing skills, courage of opening mouth to speck English in public and the point that should been
learning how to think with critical thinking. And I believe there is more big significance to discuss those gains in my further learning, my career and
my life.
Those gains come to my learning inch by inch.
I have to illustrate the reason that I discusses the gain of writing skills not reading skills even though them are similar in developing a man`s thought to
some extent is writing skills more reflects personal thinking. Writing skills build on several essays. In the first essay " Your College Years", I even

What Is Your Reading Goals Essay
When I was younger I actually enjoyed reading. I would reader chapter books a whole of them. It wouldn't take me that long either. But, they weren't
that big either. If it wasn't for my teacher then I probably wouldn't be the reader that I am today.
My teacher in first grade was the first one who influenced me to be the reader that I am. She would let us spell our vocabulary words out on the
desks with shaving cream. By doing that make me influenced to wanting to learn how to read and how to spell. I figured out that I learn a lot better
when I am doing hand on things and not just sitting listening to the teacher talk. She would also sing songs that would go with the words and the work
that we did. We would sit on the carpet in a circle and she would make jokes about the book and the stuff that she taught us. So, by her making songs to
remember things it turns out that I started doing that while spelling out vocabulary words out.
My third grade teacher would always get onto me for reading out loud. Well, of course I...show more content...
I appreciate all my teachers and what they have done to help me grow as a writer. My teachers always pushed me to become better. My goal this year
is to raise my reading goal a lot higher this year. My reading goal was always where it needed to be for what grade I was in now it is way lower than it
should be. I tend to struggle so much when I read sometimes because I get distracted really easily. Whenever I read I usually read at night right before
i go to bed because I always end up falling asleep. I have always likes to write stories about my life or whatever the teacher assigns us to write or I just
make it up. My mom is a big reader she likes to read all the time. She reads whenever she has free time and always always before she goes to bed. She
has her out kindle and she reads a bunch of books off of that. I guess I now know where I get my reading

Essay on The Importance of Reading
Reading has at all times and in all ages been a source of knowledge, of happiness, of pleasure and even moral courage. In today's world with so
much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of reading has increased. In the
olden days if reading was not cultivated or encouraged, there was a substitute for it in the religious sermon and in the oral tradition. The practice of
telling stories at bed time compensated to some extent for the lack of reading. In the nineteenth century Victorian households used to get together for
an hour or so in the evenings and listen to books being read aloud. But today we not only read, we also want to read more and more and catch up...show

There is then the serious reading undertaken for research and for satisfying one's longing for knowledge. It may be a subject of scientific significance,
or a subject of historic or philosophic importance – varying according to the taste of the person. This kind of reading disciplines the mind and trains one
for critical and original thinking. There is yet another kind of reading –reading for pleasure. Though serious reading is also a source of pleasure,
reading which is devoted mainly to it differs in one respect. It grows upon one, it gives before demanding and it soothes and relieves tension and
loneliness. The only kind of reading which neither stimulates thought nor provides knowledge is one which is approached negatively, with the simple
motive of escape and of "killing" time.
A person who is widely read is able to mix with others: he is a better conversationalist than those who do not read. He can stand his ground. Reading
broadens the vision. it is in a way a substitute for travel. It is not possible to travel as much as one would like to and reading can fill in the gap created
by the lack of travel. "Reading", as Bacon wrote in his essay. 'Of Studies'. "maketh a full man: conference a ready man: and writing an exact man".
Thus a widely–read man is a better conversationalist and is able to see the other point of view.

Essay on Reading-Is It Important?

Reading–Is It Important?
Reading can be such a broad topic in America today. How important is it, why do we read, the questions are endless but to what extent is reading
really important? There are so many issues going on around the globe such as illegal immigration, abortion and the new health care reform. Reading is
no where near as important as those topics, those issues can change one's life forever and reading is just something we do without even noticing. It
comes natural to a human being in the 21st century. In Rick Moody's piece "The Joy and Enthusiasm of Reading" he is arguing that there is no right or
wrong way to read. I agree with Moody's opinion that there is no right or wrong...show more content...
We were all created differently which means we all look at things with a different viewpoint. There should never be a limitation on reading, we
have the freedom as human beings to interpret something any way we want too. Books have that power to take you into your thoughts and really
examine what your thoughts are on the book and how you feel and when it's fiction it can take you into the story and get you to really use your
imagination, there can be no limitations when it comes to your own thoughts and your own imagination. Rick Moody said "I believe in the
absolute and unlimited liberty of reading, I believe in wandering through the stacks and picking out the first thing that strikes me" (pg.3) and later
in the essay he said "I believe there is not now and never will be an authority who can tell me how to interpret, how to read, how to find the pearl of
literary meaning in all cases" (pg. 4). The author clearly believes that reading should be left up to the imagination and the reader should have
complete control on how he or she looks at the book they are reading. After reading this piece, Moody definitely caught my attention with the idea
that there are people out there that believe there is a certain way to read something and you never really realize how seriously people take the topic of
reading and how many different opinions there are on the issue. Reading is something we do so naturally just like breathing or walking. Moody
reminded us throughout his

Reflective Essay About Reading
At this particular moment, I find myself in an unsure realization with my attitude to reading and writing, even more to reading. I use to love
reading, as a matter of fact, I would save my money just to buy new books to read. It would be right to say that I enjoyed reading in earlier years,
and now I find myself reading things with no effort to try to understand the true concept of the text. I can still say that deep down I still enjoy
reading but I rarely find myself getting truly invested in it's unless it related to something I am familiar with. One of my earliest vivid memories of
reading would be during preschool, where the whole class would gather around the colorful circular rug, and one student would pick a book that
would be read to the entire class for that day. Dr. Seuss was a very common pick, I remember the teacher reading slowly and showing the pictures,
while every student listened with such amazement. Afterwards, we would sit at our tables, which seemed big at that time, and trace our names and
letters and numbers, not even realizing that we were taking our first steps into learning the concept of writing. Kindergarten through Elementary school
was where I learned the concept, of composing sentences and the principals of basic writing. Throughout those years, I learned how to compose and
improve my writing by learning new techniques and rules; this is where the traditional five–paragraph essay was learned. Gammer and spelling were

The Importance Of Early Reading Skills
Reading is a skill often taken for granted but it is essential in order to progress in life. For a child being able to read well helps them learn new
things, give ideas and enables use of imagination. National literacy trust (2015) suggests that children's early language skills can have a major impact
on a child's development of literacy skills. Five–year olds with poor language and literacy have a higher risk of underachieving at age seven and
beyond. Reading skills encourage more opportunities in life and it can affect a child's wellbeing if they do not achieve this effectively (Finnegan,2015).
For a child who is just starting to learn to read, they need sufficient practice in reading a variety of different books to achieve fluency. Reading can
be complex and has many different aspects (Burns,1999). It is suggested that children who have problems reading and writing at a young age will
find it hard to catch up as they get older and will not reach their full potential as adults, many will withdraw from school or society and some becoming
involved with crime (MacBlain,2014). 40 percent of children find learning to read a challenge but with early help, most reading problems can be
prevented (Reading Rockets, n.d.).
This resource had been created to encourage a child to learn to read through play. It is in the form of a game and it is aimed at helping a child repeat
the words that extra practice is needed from a book that has been read. The resource created is a game that incorporates play and praise in which
are essential skills to support a child that is learning something new. Games enable all children to develop skills without pressure and are
particularly important for children who may be less confident (Lindon, 1993). The 'Let's Read' game can be used for a variety of ages as the
words can be changed and personalised depending on the child's reading ability. This game is a good way of helping to teach a child to read and
improve on words that they struggle with because it is taught by learning through play, therefore the child is less aware they are learning and it is a
fun way to practice. The child is also receiving praise and reward through the star reward sheet that comes with the game. By

Reading And Writing: A Personal Essay
I didn't always enjoy reading and writing.Yes, I know what you're thinking: what an ignorant. Well, it's true. My relationship with reading and writing
has been an emotional rollercoaster, with soaring highs and disheartening lows.In fact, I started working on essays until I was sixteen. However, by
some chance it has led me to where I'm at today, and for that I am most happy.
To be completely honest, I don't remember starting writing since a young age like many others did. My writing skills started developing until I came to
the United States, which is when I started High School. Reading and writing was a thing in Mexico, although it didn't help me that much. The reason
why is because I was a cheater. Yes,indeed, a cheater. All my essays and projects were plagiarized. It's not a honor staying late trying to find the

Reading Response Examples
The reading wasn't hard to understand. One thing that I really liked about the reading was how it would give you examples that would help you
comprehend the reading. A clear example in the reading has to be the one about Nick. He upgraded from his old Honda Civic to a Mercedes. He
justified his new purchased saying that it was safer and that he deserved it. Going in to read the reading I didn't think that it would be as engrossing,
but I was proved wrong. The reading overall is really interesting and greatly detailed. I learned several things dealing with cognitive dissonance. I was
staggered by the extent to which we justify our decisions and confront our own mistakes. I don't really recognize when I justify my decisions, but now

As children, we are afraid of being screamed at or punished in a way. Often times in elementary school, I would pass volunteering in class, afraid
that I would give the wrong answer and that I would get screamed at. It does not only have to be at school but even in our own homes. Children are
scared of doing something wrong because they think that they will be put on timeout or another type of punishment. Out of all life stages, I
believe that we are most afraid of making mistakes when we are children. Another important reason of why we are so afraid of making mistakes is
pride. I feel like pride is more present in adults other than children. Adults are often scared of making a mistake and hurting their pride. We are all
so afraid of making mistakes in one way or another. We shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes because they help us grow as a person. How would
we learn from our mistakes of we are so afraid of making them? It's simple, we wouldn't. I think that this fear is not something that we all of a
sudden get, but something that we grow up with and we can't avoid it, whether we want it or not. We can do various things to overcome this fear.
One way is to try to accept that we can't avoid making mistakes. Elementaries can give their students a lecture over making mistakes and how it's not
something that we should be afraid of. If we are told as children that we should not be so afraid of making mistakes we can decrease this

Reflection On Academic Reading
Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I am a tuned–in Reader, and I appreciate well written biographies. Enjoyable reading takes my mind off school
work and relaxes me. I enjoy academic reading as well, but sometimes it is intense and requires much concentration. Moreover, I am a tuned in
reader when it comes to academic subject's such as; psychology, nutrition, health and history. Every spare moment I have; I pick up a book or
magazine, and get carried away, by the text. I visualize the story and its' characters as if, the story is taking place right next to me. Furthermore, I
predict the outcomes of the stories and pose questions in my mind about the characters. I enjoy reading biographies about famous people like
Charles Dickens and Anne Frank. Additionally, I enjoy reading short stories and magazines such as; Binah, Ami, and Mishpachah. I am fascinated
by the astounding articles in the Ami. For example, the article about a "Journey to North Korea", makes me feel as if I had experienced it myself.
Academic reading gives me a sense of accomplishment and joy. Generally, I am a tuned in reader, when it comes to reading information. When I am
reading, I analyze and visualize the ideas of the passage. When I stop and think of what I am reading, it enhances my level of comprehension. My

we wanted. Boy, my imagination ran wild. I often wrote fiction stories. My favorite part was when the teacher allowed us to share our stories with
the whole class at the end of the week. This one activity really sparked the beginning of my love for writing. My literacy skills have only
improved, my last year of middle school helping them the most. As a star in eighth grade, I had Mr. Harris, which was a huge blessing. Many of
my fellow classmates didn't like him because he made you work, but I can only thank him for challenging me as a student. In his class, we would

deeper literacy skills. Mr. Harris's class left a huge impact on my reading and writing readiness for high school. In conclusion, I can easily thank all

Reflection About Reading
Reading
Introduction
Reading is one of the main skills for learning a language. Reading is a skill that requires learning. It has its own strategies to be mastered. Although
reading skills promote at early age by the support of parents, teachers play an important role in varying strategies of learning reading at children.
The way I learned English I learned to read English by scaffolding the long words to know which part of speech they are. I started by reading words,
phrases, sentences, paragraphs then whole pages. At the start, I realized the mistake I was making by stopping at each difficult word to translate. This
interrupted my whole understanding of what I was reading. Then I moved to guessing difficult words from the context. I...show more content...
The second strategy is scanning. It is a primarily quick reading through that allows me to break reading into pieces or scaffolding to reach the main
ideas. Scanning is to review what you have read to understand your reading. Deconstructing the material of reading is a direct purpose of reading. It
allows to get specific details to connect with general ideas to get a full picture of what is being read. The third strategy is summarizing. I used to give
the reading passage again but in my own words to make sure to what extent I mastered it. This develops my understanding of the reading material.
Then I answer reading questions and try to get answers from my summary and from the original reading material to make sure my summary lacks
nothing.
Summarizing makes me understand what I am reading using a simpler language. The fourth strategy to learn English reading is discussing. I used to
discuss what I read which an adult or a teacher. Discussing my reading will add assurance and full understanding of it. It will make me more able to
apply what I read in life through discussing and analyzing looking for positive and negative aspects in the reading passage. Discussion based reading
can also be tested through answering questions related to the passage if reading and commenting on them. The fifth strategy is extracting. It is very
important to use it for getting information out if visual charts or timetables. I

Reading And Reading : My Experience Of Reading
My first experience with reading is when my mom taught me, I was about 4 and I read Junie B Jones. It was very hard for me to remember what
letters made what sounds at first, but after that I was reading at a fluent pace (For a 4 year old). About a year later I was in kindergarten and they
were teaching us how to read, I felt like God because I was better than everyone else because I already knew how until this one kid told me he knew
how to. Then it became a competition to see who could read the fastest. I lost. Fast forward to about 4th grade, we had a very strict teacher who
believed in older ways of teaching. That included yelling and being mean. Evidently she's still one of the best teachers I've ever had. She would
make us read a book every 2 weeks and write a book report on it. A lot of kids didn't do better in English because of this style of teaching, but I think it
helped me become a much better reader. I always remember getting upset because a kid couldn't fluently read a book out loud to the class. I always
thought I could do it better than everyone else, but it turns out I was just a really snobby impatient 10 year old. In 5th grade I read the first book I
was genuinely interested in, it was called the maze runner. After that I realized books can be a lot more than walls of text. I mean they're still mostly
walls of text, though because the only 2 books I really liked were the hunger games and maze runner, and trust me. Throughout 6th grade I LOOKED

Reading And Reflection Essay

  • 1. Reading And Reflection Essay For as long as I can remember on the first day of class no matter what class it seems that the teacher would always look upon the class and ask what our personal definition of reading and writing or why we were in the class and people always seem to give the same hesitant answer every year. I thought I knew why I in the class, I assumed it was like high school english as long as I stuck to the formula that was engraved in our minds that I would have no trouble making it though the course. However, after the first day of class i knew that this class probably wouldn't be that way. After being turned off to reading and writing from a young age, my definition of reading and writing were hindered from these experiences. Going from classrooms...show more content... Finding out later that I have a learning disability hindered all attempts I would make at reading for fun writing because I wasn't good at it or didn't understand grammar. So my definitions of reading and writing were hindered by the fact that I only put in the bare minimum not giving it my all to learn how to . My first attempt at English 1101 I came with the mindset like it was highschool that i could breeze though the course with the bare minimum talk about the bigger picture summarize write a 5 paragraph essay, not realizing college english wouldn't difficult. After my mindset was changed I thought if I just changed teachers that i would pass. Walking into my second attempt for english 1101 and finding out that it wasn't going to be any easier i knew at that point i had to put in the immense amount of time it would take to read and write papers i dreaded but as i opened up to the realization that i would have to put in the time and open up to a new way of doing things . In my second attempt at English class I realized after the first couple classes that writing was no longer some magical formula you could follow and if you did you would pass. "For some it will come as a surprise to learn that reading and writing have no transformative powers." Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Reflective Essay Reading Looking back now, I think reading was the most important part in my formative years. Growing up was an extremely boring process, so having a book nearby felt essential. My parents didn't read to me much, but they always encouraged me to read for myself and to find what I liked. The times they did read to me they read usual fantasy children books, like Where the Wild Things Are or Cat in the Hat. As I got older, I started to read whatever I could get my hands on. Non–fiction always seemed to hold my attention, more so than fiction, so when the school book fair rolled around I'd always ask my parents for those DK Eyewitness books. When I'd read the same book or encyclopedia for the hundredth time I'd borrow from the school library or classroom, but I had a bad habit of never returning them. To this day I probably still have a book in storage from my elementary years. The most memorable book to me growing was always Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage. Since then, I've tried to branch out more into fiction to try and find the qualities of that story and what made it special in other works of literature. When I heard about the works of George Orwell, I decided to try an audiobook for the first time with my choice title being 1984. It wasn't what I expected or maybe I didn't give careful thoughts to my expectations. I think if people are not used to having stories read to them, then the experience is rather quite jarring and would be a turn off. As it was, I nearly didn't Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Experience Of Reading While I was in middle school in sixth grade I actually didn't know how to read books or any story my teachers would give me. As I was reading through the passages they would give me, I noticed that while I read a story it wouldn't stick to my head. I then told myself that it is going to be difficult to read passages since nothing would click in my head. There were times where the teacher would have the students and I take mini quizzes and I would hardly understand on what the reader was talking about. I would fail the quizzes due to the reason that I never gained much knowledge in reading. Articles and stories would always be tough for me to read since I didn't have many experience in reading. Therefore, half of sixth grade my teacher whom was named Ms. Soto which was an English teacher had really made reading easier for me as the semester went by. I had told her I was having difficulties in reading and she gladly helped me out. Every time I needed help with a problem from the story she was gladly there to help me. For example, the many things she would help me out with was having to stay after school for about an hour reading poems, articles and short passages from books she would give me. She also had me read magazine pages every three times a week to better my understanding of what I'm reading. I then was told that it would be a good opportunity to come in on Saturdays for reading to better my knowledge in what I'm reading. • 4. My Reading Habits 'T–h–e S–u–n, come on Celeste you can say it!' my third grade kinder garden teacher begged for the last time before I started crying again and they had to call my mother. That was when I realized reading just wasn't for me. I was five years old. My reading habits have been changing a lot throughout my entire life. I remember that I learned how to read when I was four. My father and I used to read bedtime stories before going to sleep. I don't know why I pretended not to know how to read when I was little; I guess I was just afraid to do it with someone who wasn't my father. On my first day of Elementary School, the teachers asked if anyone knew how to read, my father stood up and mentioned my name. Surprisingly I was the only child who could read an easy full simple sentence. Since that day, my teachers made me read every morning a short story for my class. One of the first books I read completely and all by myself was 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss. I was so proud of it that I decided to read it for my whole family during Christmas. Five times. My mother took my excitement as a hint of what I wanted for Christmas and the next morning all of the Dr. Seuss books laid down on my tree. I read them all throughout third grade. Sixth grade was when things started getting though, for me, I think I was so into reading when I was little that I started hating it. I stopped reading when I was 10. My family didn't notice, therefore they didn't say anything. Middle School was no different, we had a reading class and the only books I read during middle school were to pass my class, nothing else. Do not get me wrong, I enjoyed reading, it was just the fact they forced me to do it so much that made me dislike it. In my junior year, I went to boarding school in England. For my literature class, we had to read a book each month and write a review about it. I chose to read all of the Harry Potter series for my first seven months. In the exact moment, I started reading the first book, I fell in love with reading all over again. J.K. Rowling has a way of writing that wraps you up from the very first sentence. I could not put the books down. After Rowling's impact on me, I started reading the basic teen novels 'The Fault Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. How Reading Changed My Life Reading has never been too difficult for me. As a child I was constantly reading something. I loved to read, but as I grew my passion for reading slowly began to die. My interest in life and my ideas changed the way I do things, and it unfortunately has changed the way I feel about reading. I began to have a strong interest in reading at a very young age. It began to grow in the first grade. At my elementary school we had trips to the library, where we would choose a book to read. I always found myself reading the Junie B. Jones books, those were my favorite books to read as child. Just like any first grader I struggled with certain words that I could not pronounce, but I continued to read because I enjoyed it. Although I struggled, reading...show more content... The time I usually spent reading when I was younger was now being spent doing homework and sports. At the time was taking pre–AP classes and playing soccer. All my pre–AP teachers drowned me in class work and homework, the time left after completing my school work was filled with soccer. Reading The Hunger Games series led me to reading other books as well. The books I often read were either already a movie or were going to be made into a movie. That was the main motive for me reading these books, I liked to see the difference between how I pictured the book and how they are presented on screen. At the moment I don't really like reading at all. I face the same issues I faced in the seventh grade. I simply have no time to read books, I still continue to have an overload of schoolwork with the exception that do not play soccer anymore. With all he schoolwork I see reason in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Reading Literacy Essay Reading is a basic skill that students develop and improve throughout their whole life. There will always be room to improve a person's reading skills; whether they be nine or ninety, one's brain will always be building and making new connections and like Jonathan Seagull, one should strive to improve. There was one assignment in particular that I felt was the most fitting for what the Reading Literacy chart asks for. In this activity students were given a prompt and 1 hour to complete an essay arguing a point. They were also given articles which the students could read, research, and take whatever information they feel would be best fitting for proving their argument. As well as having to read articles they were also asked to connect their Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Advanced English Reading Essay What difference has Advanced English Reading course made to my learning ––A Summary Report of Advanced English Reading After the end of Advanced English Reading course I have to take the question into consideration that what I have gained? Reading skills? High grades in final examination? Or a certificate of CET–6? All above are not I have gained or not enough, and not worth to discussing them. What I considered them worth to discussing even not gained enough are writing skills, courage of opening mouth to speck English in public and the point that should been learning how to think with critical thinking. And I believe there is more big significance to discuss those gains in my further learning, my career and my life. Those gains come to my learning inch by inch. • 8. What Is Your Reading Goals Essay When I was younger I actually enjoyed reading. I would reader chapter books a whole of them. It wouldn't take me that long either. But, they weren't that big either. If it wasn't for my teacher then I probably wouldn't be the reader that I am today. My teacher in first grade was the first one who influenced me to be the reader that I am. She would let us spell our vocabulary words out on the desks with shaving cream. By doing that make me influenced to wanting to learn how to read and how to spell. I figured out that I learn a lot better when I am doing hand on things and not just sitting listening to the teacher talk. She would also sing songs that would go with the words and the work that we did. We would sit on the carpet in a circle and she would make jokes about the book and the stuff that she taught us. So, by her making songs to remember things it turns out that I started doing that while spelling out vocabulary words out. My third grade teacher would always get onto me for reading out loud. Well, of course I...show more content... I appreciate all my teachers and what they have done to help me grow as a writer. My teachers always pushed me to become better. My goal this year is to raise my reading goal a lot higher this year. My reading goal was always where it needed to be for what grade I was in now it is way lower than it should be. I tend to struggle so much when I read sometimes because I get distracted really easily. Whenever I read I usually read at night right before i go to bed because I always end up falling asleep. I have always likes to write stories about my life or whatever the teacher assigns us to write or I just make it up. My mom is a big reader she likes to read all the time. She reads whenever she has free time and always always before she goes to bed. She has her out kindle and she reads a bunch of books off of that. • 9. Essay on The Importance of Reading Reading has at all times and in all ages been a source of knowledge, of happiness, of pleasure and even moral courage. In today's world with so much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of reading has increased. In the olden days if reading was not cultivated or encouraged, there was a substitute for it in the religious sermon and in the oral tradition. The practice of telling stories at bed time compensated to some extent for the lack of reading. In the nineteenth century Victorian households used to get together for an hour or so in the evenings and listen to books being read aloud. But today we not only read, we also want to read more and more and catch up...show more content... There is then the serious reading undertaken for research and for satisfying one's longing for knowledge. It may be a subject of scientific significance, or a subject of historic or philosophic importance – varying according to the taste of the person. This kind of reading disciplines the mind and trains one for critical and original thinking. There is yet another kind of reading –reading for pleasure. Though serious reading is also a source of pleasure, reading which is devoted mainly to it differs in one respect. It grows upon one, it gives before demanding and it soothes and relieves tension and loneliness. The only kind of reading which neither stimulates thought nor provides knowledge is one which is approached negatively, with the simple motive of escape and of "killing" time. A person who is widely read is able to mix with others: he is a better conversationalist than those who do not read. He can stand his ground. Reading broadens the vision. it is in a way a substitute for travel. It is not possible to travel as much as one would like to and reading can fill in the gap created by the lack of travel. "Reading", as Bacon wrote in his essay. 'Of Studies'. "maketh a full man: conference a ready man: and writing an exact man". Thus a widely–read man is a better conversationalist and is able to see the other point of view. Literature is a form Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay on Reading-Is It Important? Soriano, Rachel English 091 July 19 2011 Reading–Is It Important? Reading can be such a broad topic in America today. How important is it, why do we read, the questions are endless but to what extent is reading really important? There are so many issues going on around the globe such as illegal immigration, abortion and the new health care reform. Reading is no where near as important as those topics, those issues can change one's life forever and reading is just something we do without even noticing. It comes natural to a human being in the 21st century. In Rick Moody's piece "The Joy and Enthusiasm of Reading" he is arguing that there is no right or wrong way to read. I agree with Moody's opinion that there is no right or wrong...show more content... We were all created differently which means we all look at things with a different viewpoint. There should never be a limitation on reading, we have the freedom as human beings to interpret something any way we want too. Books have that power to take you into your thoughts and really examine what your thoughts are on the book and how you feel and when it's fiction it can take you into the story and get you to really use your imagination, there can be no limitations when it comes to your own thoughts and your own imagination. Rick Moody said "I believe in the absolute and unlimited liberty of reading, I believe in wandering through the stacks and picking out the first thing that strikes me" (pg.3) and later in the essay he said "I believe there is not now and never will be an authority who can tell me how to interpret, how to read, how to find the pearl of literary meaning in all cases" (pg. 4). The author clearly believes that reading should be left up to the imagination and the reader should have complete control on how he or she looks at the book they are reading. After reading this piece, Moody definitely caught my attention with the idea that there are people out there that believe there is a certain way to read something and you never really realize how seriously people take the topic of reading and how many different opinions there are on the issue. Reading is something we do so naturally just like breathing or walking. Moody reminded us throughout his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflective Essay About Reading At this particular moment, I find myself in an unsure realization with my attitude to reading and writing, even more to reading. I use to love reading, as a matter of fact, I would save my money just to buy new books to read. It would be right to say that I enjoyed reading in earlier years, and now I find myself reading things with no effort to try to understand the true concept of the text. I can still say that deep down I still enjoy reading but I rarely find myself getting truly invested in it's unless it related to something I am familiar with. One of my earliest vivid memories of reading would be during preschool, where the whole class would gather around the colorful circular rug, and one student would pick a book that would be read to the entire class for that day. Dr. Seuss was a very common pick, I remember the teacher reading slowly and showing the pictures, while every student listened with such amazement. Afterwards, we would sit at our tables, which seemed big at that time, and trace our names and letters and numbers, not even realizing that we were taking our first steps into learning the concept of writing. Kindergarten through Elementary school was where I learned the concept, of composing sentences and the principals of basic writing. Throughout those years, I learned how to compose and improve my writing by learning new techniques and rules; this is where the traditional five–paragraph essay was learned. Gammer and spelling were one of my biggest Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Importance Of Early Reading Skills Reading is a skill often taken for granted but it is essential in order to progress in life. For a child being able to read well helps them learn new things, give ideas and enables use of imagination. National literacy trust (2015) suggests that children's early language skills can have a major impact on a child's development of literacy skills. Five–year olds with poor language and literacy have a higher risk of underachieving at age seven and beyond. Reading skills encourage more opportunities in life and it can affect a child's wellbeing if they do not achieve this effectively (Finnegan,2015). For a child who is just starting to learn to read, they need sufficient practice in reading a variety of different books to achieve fluency. Reading can be complex and has many different aspects (Burns,1999). It is suggested that children who have problems reading and writing at a young age will find it hard to catch up as they get older and will not reach their full potential as adults, many will withdraw from school or society and some becoming involved with crime (MacBlain,2014). 40 percent of children find learning to read a challenge but with early help, most reading problems can be prevented (Reading Rockets, n.d.). This resource had been created to encourage a child to learn to read through play. It is in the form of a game and it is aimed at helping a child repeat the words that extra practice is needed from a book that has been read. The resource created is a game that incorporates play and praise in which are essential skills to support a child that is learning something new. Games enable all children to develop skills without pressure and are particularly important for children who may be less confident (Lindon, 1993). The 'Let's Read' game can be used for a variety of ages as the words can be changed and personalised depending on the child's reading ability. This game is a good way of helping to teach a child to read and improve on words that they struggle with because it is taught by learning through play, therefore the child is less aware they are learning and it is a fun way to practice. The child is also receiving praise and reward through the star reward sheet that comes with the game. By Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Reading And Writing: A Personal Essay I didn't always enjoy reading and writing.Yes, I know what you're thinking: what an ignorant. Well, it's true. My relationship with reading and writing has been an emotional rollercoaster, with soaring highs and disheartening lows.In fact, I started working on essays until I was sixteen. However, by some chance it has led me to where I'm at today, and for that I am most happy. To be completely honest, I don't remember starting writing since a young age like many others did. My writing skills started developing until I came to the United States, which is when I started High School. Reading and writing was a thing in Mexico, although it didn't help me that much. The reason why is because I was a cheater. Yes,indeed, a cheater. All my essays and projects were plagiarized. It's not a honor staying late trying to find the perfect fake assignment instead of using your own brain and words. • 14. Reading Response Examples The reading wasn't hard to understand. One thing that I really liked about the reading was how it would give you examples that would help you comprehend the reading. A clear example in the reading has to be the one about Nick. He upgraded from his old Honda Civic to a Mercedes. He justified his new purchased saying that it was safer and that he deserved it. Going in to read the reading I didn't think that it would be as engrossing, but I was proved wrong. The reading overall is really interesting and greatly detailed. I learned several things dealing with cognitive dissonance. I was staggered by the extent to which we justify our decisions and confront our own mistakes. I don't really recognize when I justify my decisions, but now that I think...show more content... As children, we are afraid of being screamed at or punished in a way. Often times in elementary school, I would pass volunteering in class, afraid that I would give the wrong answer and that I would get screamed at. It does not only have to be at school but even in our own homes. Children are scared of doing something wrong because they think that they will be put on timeout or another type of punishment. Out of all life stages, I believe that we are most afraid of making mistakes when we are children. Another important reason of why we are so afraid of making mistakes is pride. I feel like pride is more present in adults other than children. Adults are often scared of making a mistake and hurting their pride. We are all so afraid of making mistakes in one way or another. We shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes because they help us grow as a person. How would we learn from our mistakes of we are so afraid of making them? It's simple, we wouldn't. I think that this fear is not something that we all of a sudden get, but something that we grow up with and we can't avoid it, whether we want it or not. We can do various things to overcome this fear. One way is to try to accept that we can't avoid making mistakes. Elementaries can give their students a lecture over making mistakes and how it's not something that we should be afraid of. If we are told as children that we should not be so afraid of making mistakes we can decrease this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. The Importance Of Reading If you couldn't read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone's life; reading and writing are essential for a person's success. Every single day, it's used, whether it's for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you're driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I've written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills. As a young child, I can vividly look back on the...show more content... While my love for reading sprouted, I soon became obsessed with writing. My passion for reading only helped my writing skills to prosper. In fifth grade, I had a teacher who very well understood that reading and writing were important. Every day, we had a half an hour to write about whatever we wanted. Boy, my imagination ran wild. I often wrote fiction stories. My favorite part was when the teacher allowed us to share our stories with the whole class at the end of the week. This one activity really sparked the beginning of my love for writing. My literacy skills have only improved, my last year of middle school helping them the most. As a star in eighth grade, I had Mr. Harris, which was a huge blessing. Many of my fellow classmates didn't like him because he made you work, but I can only thank him for challenging me as a student. In his class, we would study a section of a book and then take a test over what we read. Oftentimes, there would be multiple short answer questions, where you had to use deeper literacy skills. Mr. Harris's class left a huge impact on my reading and writing readiness for high school. In conclusion, I can easily thank all of the people who have affected my literacy memories. All of those people have assisted me, getting me where I am today. I know that there is a lot of progress still needed to be made, however, I also know that AP Language will help me get where I want to go. Not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Reflection About Reading Reading Introduction Reading is one of the main skills for learning a language. Reading is a skill that requires learning. It has its own strategies to be mastered. Although reading skills promote at early age by the support of parents, teachers play an important role in varying strategies of learning reading at children. The way I learned English I learned to read English by scaffolding the long words to know which part of speech they are. I started by reading words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs then whole pages. At the start, I realized the mistake I was making by stopping at each difficult word to translate. This interrupted my whole understanding of what I was reading. Then I moved to guessing difficult words from the context. I...show more content... The second strategy is scanning. It is a primarily quick reading through that allows me to break reading into pieces or scaffolding to reach the main ideas. Scanning is to review what you have read to understand your reading. Deconstructing the material of reading is a direct purpose of reading. It allows to get specific details to connect with general ideas to get a full picture of what is being read. The third strategy is summarizing. I used to give the reading passage again but in my own words to make sure to what extent I mastered it. This develops my understanding of the reading material. Then I answer reading questions and try to get answers from my summary and from the original reading material to make sure my summary lacks nothing. Summarizing makes me understand what I am reading using a simpler language. The fourth strategy to learn English reading is discussing. I used to discuss what I read which an adult or a teacher. Discussing my reading will add assurance and full understanding of it. It will make me more able to apply what I read in life through discussing and analyzing looking for positive and negative aspects in the reading passage. Discussion based reading can also be tested through answering questions related to the passage if reading and commenting on them. The fifth strategy is extracting. It is very important to use it for getting information out if visual charts or timetables. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Reading And Reading : My Experience Of Reading My first experience with reading is when my mom taught me, I was about 4 and I read Junie B Jones. It was very hard for me to remember what letters made what sounds at first, but after that I was reading at a fluent pace (For a 4 year old). About a year later I was in kindergarten and they were teaching us how to read, I felt like God because I was better than everyone else because I already knew how until this one kid told me he knew how to. Then it became a competition to see who could read the fastest. I lost. Fast forward to about 4th grade, we had a very strict teacher who believed in older ways of teaching. That included yelling and being mean. Evidently she's still one of the best teachers I've ever had. She would make us read a book every 2 weeks and write a book report on it. A lot of kids didn't do better in English because of this style of teaching, but I think it helped me become a much better reader. I always remember getting upset because a kid couldn't fluently read a book out loud to the class. I always thought I could do it better than everyone else, but it turns out I was just a really snobby impatient 10 year old. In 5th grade I read the first book I was genuinely interested in, it was called the maze runner. After that I realized books can be a lot more than walls of text. I mean they're still mostly walls of text, though because the only 2 books I really liked were the hunger games and maze runner, and trust me. Throughout 6th grade I LOOKED for good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
